Hi everyone, I am new here and I wanted to introduce myself. I am Jackie, and I am 27 years old. A little bit about myself.. I am from Texas, and its true what they say... everything is big here in Texas, including me! I have been married for almost 8 years to a wonderful man who despite me gaining more than 160lbs since we got together in high school, still loves me just as much now, as when we first got together despite my weight. I dont have any kids yet, but I have 4 very spoiled dogs and 8 even more spoiled kitties. Oh yeah, and one guinea pig lol.
I have always been a big girl.. in high school i weighed around 230, but I didnt let it get me down. After I graduated and moved on my own, I gained about 100 lbs and after I got married, slowly over the years have put on an additional 50. The last time I went to the DR's, my weight was 386, but I know that I have gained since then, so I guesstimate it at around 400 now.
I have decided today, that I was sick and tired of being at my current weight and have decided that I am going to do something about it!! As of what kind of diet I am going to do, right now I am not sure. But for right now, just kicking some of the bad habits that I have in life is a starter for me I guess. My next step is to go out and purchase a darn scale LOL.
I was researching the net and came across this site and the first thing I thought was "wow, I love that name!!" After reading a few of the posts, I saw that this group seems like this is a place where I can go and get extra support and motivation that I am going to need in my journey. Everyone here is so warm and friendly!!!
Hi Jackie,
Welcome to 3FC. You have come to the right place to start your journey. Everyone here has been or is still experiencing just about the same thing. Your starting off right just by making some changes, giving up some old bad habits. It's one step at a time for all of us. While your here I'd like to invite you over to the POSITIVE UPLIFTING MOTIVATION: ONE Positive thing about me today is........Part Eight. It is also located here in the 300+ section. It's a great place to visit and just talk about any positives that may have happened to you that day or the day before. It doesn't always have to be about weight loss, it can be about anything. I look forward to getting to know you better.
Welcome, Jackie! This is a great site for support and knowledge and anything else you need!!! I was hovering at 400 before I finally made my change. Enough was enough. I opted for surgery, but there are many ways to make the journey. The most important thing is for you to find what works and make it happen!!!
I just joined myself after lurking for some time...this site is amazing and everyone has great insight and is very positive. Good luck on your journey!
WELCOME Jackie! I am so glad that you decided to join us.
We have good days and bad days, we make good choices and bad choices, we give good advice and bad advice.
I hope I am not being too presumptuous, but I would love to share with you how I was able to get back in control of my own life a few months ago.
I found an Online Easy-to-Use Food Journal. There are lots of them out there and they are FREE.
I started by just logging on the computer everything I ate and the system told me how many Calories, Fat, Sodium, Carbs etc I was eating each day. I didn't try to make any immediate changes, I just sat back and watched my normal behavior. I discovered so many calories were being consumed when I wasn't paying attention (I'll just grab that cookie as I walk by the counter, etc).
After that it was easier to make better choices because the computer was telling me when I was exceeding the limits that I decided to set. Or even better, I could enter in what I planned to eat and the computer would tell me what a great choice that was!
This is an exciting journey, I am proud of you for deciding to take it, and I am thrilled you are allowing us to be a part of it.
HAHA, i was going thru posts and forgot that I posted this one
Thanks everyone for your welcoming, and thanks Godiva911 for the tip on the food journal, it does really put things in perspective for you! I have been making a lot of changes, and one thing that I have changed drastically is the amount of sugar and sugary products that I eat!! I used to be a sugar-holic!! And trust me, my body is hating me for it to!!!!!! I feel grumpy a lot and hubby understands. haha, he even knows just to stay away from me til it passes!!!! When I get grumpy, I usually grab a piece of fruit and it helps out a lot.
OH yeah, OVEROVER, congrats on the quitting smoking!! (and your weight loss of course) I am going to admit it, that is one more habit that I am needing to break... and I starting smoking during one of the weirdest times of my life.. my first semester of nursing school!!
Sweet Pea!!! This is my first week here and after reading your post I cannot tell you how much you sound like me!!! I, too, am from TX. Where are you at, if you don't mind me asking? I met my husband in high school when I weighed 150 pounds and now I am 344 pounds. He is still here, loves me and tells me so everyday. I am very lucky to have him still by my side! I have three children. I wish you the best of luck on your journey and really, really encourage you to visit the One positive thing about me is.... thread. It is a wonderful place to have daily accountability and is full of AMAZING women. So here is some for you to start your journey! We can do this!
♥ Welcome, Jackie! These women are amazingly supportive and I'm sure you'll love it just as much as I do. Their comments alone keep me motivated, and I do hope I can contribute on keeping you motivated. :]
