Default Ever used a TENS unit? Did it work for you?

I just had an epidural injection yesterday for my back pain (herniated disks, degenerative disk disease, other stuff going on . . . ). The doctor had me meet with a rep a\from a med supply company and they set me up with a tens unit. I'm lying down right now and it's zapping my back. I'm hoping and praying it will help - I'm always in pain.

Have you ever used one? Did it help?

I've never used one personally, however, we have one in the house for both my roommate and his mother. They both have similar problems. They don't use it as often as they should but when there is a flair up or just a lot of pain they have noticed a good difference. I believe it will help.

Good luck with it. I hope it works great for you!

It does help to block some of the pain. I have one and have had times where I use it alot. I just had my second round of epidural steroid injections at L4-L5 and L5-S1. They are finally starting to make a real difference in my pain level. I hope that it works for you.

When I used to run, I strained my knee pretty badly. The physical therapy office used to put a tens unit on it. It did seem to help.

I haven't used one at home, but my chiropractor has one and it was helpful!

I had one when I ruptured disc in my lower back. Had the shots, and used the tens and physical therapy.

Now with the weightloss my back is back up to 90%

I work at an interventional pain management clinic, and we see some success with TENS units in conjunction with other therapies. For the herniated disc and DDD, I often see my doctors prescribing and performing discectomies - with a lot of success. You may want to look into a discectomy if the ESI doesn't give you the relief you're looking for. Interventional pain management is an interesting specialty - we see people every day in chronic pain, and I love when we can help a patient get relief.

Wow, sounds like we're twins! I had a steriod injection back in January with a herniated/bulging disc and degenerative disc disease. After feeling better though, I used an ARP (Accelerated Recovery Program) which is similar to what you are using now. They find the points of pain, and you know what? It turned out that I hurt my back because it was overcompensating for my bad knees!!! Once I strengthened my knees, no more pain.

Good luck! Hope you feel better!

I used one for a year and a half during physical therapy for a (really severe) knee injury and surgery. It was the highlight of my day, it helped better than just about anything else. The only thing that managed the pain more was the morphine drip they sent me home with, but that's not a route I'd suggest to anyone for pain management!
