Wink Greetings from a slightly confused newbie

Hi,

This looks like an awesome forum though a little overwhelming with all it has to offer! I'm grateful to have found it and will keep exploring.

Part of my challenge is having too much conflicting info and having tried many diets and weight loss plans that worked for awhile and then gained the weight back plus some. No doubt, I'm not alone on this.

Also through the years I've tried to incorporate more whole foods and less meat. So one of my ongoing challenges is finding a variety of protein sources that I enjoy. I'm picky and don't eat much seafood, nor care for eggs and recently have minimized even poultry except when eating out.

There are soy products that I like, though even that has become controversial and I'm not sure what to think. So currently I'm going with Greek yogurt, nuts & nut butters, cheeses, salmon, tuna, beans & occasional mild fish like cod or walleye. And once in awhile, I'll use protein powder for a smoothie.

My preferred diet is bread & chocolate, but that's not working so I need to commit to a plan a bit more healthy and slimming. Hoping to find something here though haven't ruled out working with a nutritionist.

Default I'm a newbie too!

Hi,
I agree. It is a great forum and what a place to explore. I love your preferred diet too (too much - LOL).
I did see a nutrionist and he was really helpful. I credit him with at least 10 -12 of the pounds I lost in the last five months. His thing is to follow the Canada Food Guide and watch carbs. He set me up on a really simple plan that weirdly enough echos what I read in "You, on a diet."
It included a lot of fibre (he's Bran Buds [cereal] crazy); raspberries (best berries); yougurt; salad; cottage cheese; and some opportunity for variety in the evening.
I don't recommend it for a lifelong thing (I only lasted a month; however, having some choice in the evening really helped) but it helped me learn portion control and get used to less sugar and more water (helps with the Bran Buds).
Good luck! We're in this together.
Fellow newbie.

Welcome Hopeful.. I don't see many vegies or fruit in your diet. The best thing for you is to find a diet that you will follow,it is ok to experiment until you find what you will do, There is WeightWatchers, SouthBeach, Atkins just to name a few that are popular. I personally, after trying many find that calorie counting works best for me.

Thanks for the warm welcomes Liliann, beachbum1 and bargoo!

Bargoo, you're right, not many fruits and veggies on the bread & chocolate diet lol! Actually I do eat some, how many varies from day to day. The list of proteins was given b/c its somewhat limited and I want to find more variety or ways to eat those - that's part of my ongoing challenge. Though its certainly not the only one!

Welcome!

I only joined yesterday and I feel at home. You're right about the vastness of the forum making it a little bit overwhelming at times, but I find it a challenge: see how much I can procrastinate at work discovering new and interesting threads here.
