how long before you started to feel more "Yourself"
I so overdid it yesterday, I went to a live action roleplay game (yeah NERDS) and then afters with friends and then the club for a bit before I got faint and had to have my BF take me home,
I was out from 4:30pm to 12:45am.
I took plenty of Nectar with me and drank the whole time and kept up as much as I could with my pain meds... having found out a 10 mg pill lasts no longer than 5 with not much more benefit.
I was able to rest at game which was in the BSU Student Union Building and even got my exercise in pretty good without over doing it.
I also brought 1 SF pudding cup and two 3oz servings of yoplait light and spread them out pretty well saving the pudding cup, which I could not finish, for Denny's where I ate with friends and joked about which of their foods would kill me (put me back in the hospital or make me wish I was dead) Pretty much everything. I also spent a little time looking at the menu and trying to figure out for the future what I would be able to eat in the future... looks like sides of cottage cheese, ala cart chicken breasts and fish, not really much else but they were cool about bringing me a dessert spoon for my little Jell-o cup..lol
We stopped by goth night at the club where I was very careful about giving hugs to people (I have great friends) and was fine for an hour until 12:30 when I suddenly felt as if someone had pulled my plug and taken my energy, attention and balance.
My BF drove me home, walked me in to make sure I was ok and got me to text himas soon as I made it to bed (we were with his sisters who were still at the club and he had to go get them)
I seldom sleep more than 3 hours at a time and I feel fine but intend to take a light day with regular small walks and some reading.
Sorry for the rambeling... here is the question... How long after surgery (what type) did you feel like you could go out and do the stuff you did before? How long before simple stuff did not wipe you out?
The problem is thanks to Vicadin and laparoscopic surgery I feel fine for 2 or 3 hours and wiped out for about an hour and a half then the cycle starts again... I HATE being confined to home, I am super social and not having my car makes me crazy. (I made the BF take it to his house so I would not be tempted and because mine is more comfortable for me to ride in than his)
I technically had a DS (longer common channel, but still technically a DS), and I was back to work full time after 2 weeks off. That was just to a desk job. I would say by 1 month, I was feeling more myself again, although I did have a battle with dehydration after I returned to work and ended up getting IV fluids.
On the topic of Denny's - there is a LOT you can eat there in the future! I go there pretty much every Saturday night with my husband, and I especially like it because there is os much for me to choose from there. You have a DS - you do not have to eat low fat (though your nut probably told you to, but this often causes constipation in post-DS patients), so enjoy things like eggs with cheese, bacon, sausage, ham, etc. Anything high in protein and low in carbs. I often get the Moons Over My Hammy and pull off one piece of bread (and I don't have room in my tummy to eat the fries, so that's not an issue). Or I get chicken strips. Or mozzarella sticks. Or their smoked pulled chicken sandwich (YUM - again, ditch half the bread, no room for fries!). You will not need to lead a life of eating only cottage cheese and dry chicken breast - promise!
I had RNY on 3/30. I had a lot of problem with abdominal adhesions (I now know!). Since they ripped, I've felt great!!! But, I still can't do a full day like I used to. I'm five weeks out tomorrow. I can have an active morning and an active evening and rest in the afternoon. But, the energy definitely doesn't last.
And, totally agree with Jill on the Denny's topic. I have to get 60 grams of protein in each day and I limit myself to 100 grams of carbs. Beyond that, I can eat whatever I want! Saturday I was out all day with chocolate and pecan pie and chips around me. Had no interest in it whatsoever. I had brought some leftover chinese and I snacked on that, when I wanted. I had pizza when we did pizza for dinner. Easy on the crust. Bread is a bad thing with little holes!!
You will learn your limits. The fact that you are doing as well as you are so soon after surgery is great! Just take it easy. In the long run, this is just a blip on the screen.
i felt really tired for about a month after surgery, but i didnt feel "normal" until close to 3 months after. I just got tired really easy. now i am 6 months out and I really do feeel normal, I actually have mor energy than I ever had before
whoa, babe!!! SLOW DOWN!!!!! stop pushing! you need to heal. it's wonderful that you're getting out and about, but seriously - ya gotta rest up! it's only been a week!
some folks go back to DESK JOBS after a couple of weeks [like Jilly], but they also take it a little easy and rest when they're tired. other folks need a bit longer.
