Default May Day Weekend Chat!

Hooray! Hooray! The first of May! When I was a kid, we used to make little paper baskets, fill them with flowers and leave them on neighbours' doorsteps. A few years ago, when May 1 happened on a weekend, a group of us put up a maypole behind the barn and had a great party. I must find the pictures.

Balmy weather out there this morning. I think it's actually going to be hot later today so it's definitely time to put away the winter clothing. Of course, working outside will take priority over any kind of indoor task.

How does your first weekend in May look?

Happy May Day Ruth. I admit I have never celebrated it. Today my DS is busy: SAT this morning, working for his teacher at Special Olympics this afternoon. DH got within feet of Obama yesterday and has the pictures to prove it! I slept horrible last night so think a nap is in order today. And... maybe today I will clean out my closets!

Good morning sleepy heads

Happy May 1st!

Ruth, I used help Audrey and Maggie make little woven paper baskets and they'd fill them with wild violets and dandelions and hang them on their grandmama's door and Cindy's front door, but we didn't do it this year. There doesn't seem to be much time for crafts during the school year any more, unfortunately.

It's going to be a scorcher here today, but I'm prepared to enjoy it. I have all my pots and the flower bed around the patio all ready to planted with impatiens, and that will be the order of the day. Monica was going to come out with Caite and Carley this afternoon, but they're coming tomorrow, instead, so I'll have the entire day to putz around in the yard. I'm seriously contemplating setting out my tomato plants and peppers since the forecast is looking pretty summery for the next week.

We're off to breakfast and the Amish market first, though!

Good morning!

Karen, That is so awesome that your DH got so close to Obama! What a memorable thing to experience!

cottage, Have a great time at the Amish market, that sounds like so much fun on a bright sunny day!

They're calling for a high of 92˚ here today. I think we're actually going to have to turn on the AC.

Good Morning

Happy May Day! Thanks for getting us started, Ruth, and thanks for sharing your May Day memories. It seems here, it's always too cold to leave flowers and today is no exception. I hope it's the last time you put away winter clothes this season!

Heidi

Karen, have a good OP Saturday. Your projects sound great! Make sure you get that nap!

Linda, Wow! A scorcher! That should aid in gardening endeavors. Have a great time at the Amish market.

Me, very happy to be settling back into a routine. We still have snow flurries, so no bike riding in my plan. I want to get to the annual library book sale right at 10 so I get first choice for all the nutrition books. Hopefully, I can fit the pool in first. I started planning my weekly menu last night so I'll finish up on that and hopefully have a non eventful Saturday.

I had a NSV yesterday. The bank guy pointed out that my drivers license had expired on my BD, so I went for a new one. My weight is substantially less this time, and I felt good about taking the picture. The old one was at least 50 pounds ago.

Amidst all this, my heart is very heavy for all the people and creatures on the gulf coast who are going to be impacted by the oil. I'm listening to the news and reflecting on the morning I turned the radio on to hear that the Exxon Valdez was on the rocks...and then finally the day when the oil balls landed on our beach. Alot of things were never the same....

Morning chickies... I just made it in under the wire!

I am back on PH1 today and sooo excited about it. While I've eaten like crap in the last week (I won't even get on the scale to see the damage I did until weigh in Monday AM), I also felt like crap. Really and truly. So, I am back in the game. With enthusiasm (which is not something I've usually come to the table with so close to going off for so long!).

Ruth
Karen - have a wild time with those closets!
Cottage - hot here too! in the upper 80s/low 90s I think! Stay cool...
Chelsea - you stay cool too!
Debbie - AWESOME NSV!!!

For me, I am going to make my food shopping list, play to cook all day tomorrow and head to go play spades at 3. We'll get home around 8 after shopping so it's a quick Thai curry dinner Tomorrow, I step into the gym for the first time. Better populate my new iPod!

We walked the cats around in the backyard this morning. It's a riot to see Happy Saturday all.

Linda - I was actually first! But I just could not believe that so waited. I just saw it is supposed to be 90 near you at my son's school! Yikes. That is awfully hot yard putzing weather.

Chelsea - Last time my husband went to DC he got a blizzard - seems like today he gets a heat wave! Keep cool.

Debbie - I still can't believe you had all that snow this week. Congrats on your NSV

Tammie - Wow! How industrious. My kids would rebel.

Jenn - Busy you. Maybe I can catch your enthusiasm.

I am proud of myself - I actually stayed on the boring elliptical for 75 minutes today without my husband to work out with. That is twice as long as I would normally do on my own. I had to watch two recorded TV shows!

lol Karen - I will share! I just really want to get thinner and healthier. I want to be down to a size 16 (if not 14) by the cruise in December. That means losing 20-30 pounds in 7 months. Doable, attainable and all I need to do is get an attitude adjustment I am going to wake up early 2 days this week to exercise, even if it literally kills me. Even switching sides of the bed so I am nearer to the alarm.

After the December cruise, my BFF is getting married in Oct 2012. Yet another reason to continue to maintain/lose. In between there, I will place another vacation or goal (probably summer 2011) to keep me motivated. By her wedding (I was asked to be MOH!), I'd like to be down to my lowest of 189.

I know I just need to exercise and stay OP. I have all the tools, I just need the motivation. And when I find some, I need to go with it And of course, give a little away!

Just a quick missed you all this morning We left the house super early to go birding. Had a wonderful and fun day and came home to what appeared to be a kitty emergency. Now back from the vet with antibiotics and a lighter wallet all is well. I'm off to bed because we are due on a bird walk at 7 AM Tomorrow will definitely be a nap day.

Hope all is well this morning with the kitty, Cyndi.

We had a torrential rain late yesterday afternoon, the first t-storm of the season. My car is now all sparkling clean - the goose poop polka-dots are history.

Today is rather crammed with church, garden stuff, Jazz's test, a church supper to help with and an evening visit to the funeral parlour. (A friend's father died.) I'll be glad to hit the sheets tonight!

Hope your Sunday has some quiet times - it is supposed to be a day of rest.

Cyndi, I hope all is well with your kitty, too. It's a great morning for a bird walk!

Ruth, Yay for Mother Nature taking care of your car! We had a shower earlier this morning, so that takes care of my watering the garden.

It's supposed to be another hot and sunny day here. I want to get the bean seeds planted and bung in the zucchini and cucumber plants today, and see where I can plant the squash seedlings I bought at the market yesterday. Jake will probably have to build me another raised bed for them. I got acorn, butternut and spaghetti squash seedlings, just because I couldn't resist buying them.
We're going to Cracker Barrel for breakfast and then going to Home Depot and Lowe's to price kitchen countertops this morning. That's our anniversary present to each other this year, and I'm excited! But first I want to call my Dad and see how he's feeling today. He was in a car accident yesterday with his buddy, and although they weren't seriously hurt, they both have lacerations and are pretty bruised up. The details of the accident still aren't clear, but Dad was driving and can't remember anything yet.
The kids will all be here this afternoon for ribs on the grill, and I'd better decide what Caite and I are going to eat!

Have a great Sunday!

Good morning from NC, chicks!

Just checking in, maybe it will help me be motivated to eat better when I get back!! There's so many things down here reminding me why we moved north, I have no doubts we did the right thing. For starters, it's going to be over 90 degrees today...blech....

I won't get into the bad things I ate , but let's just say I'll try to do a 1.5 starting Wednesday (when do I get to the grocery store?). It's really not hard to do, when I'm in my own environment.

Hope y'all are having a great weekend!!

(Debbie - I hear ya on the oil tragedy. It really makes you think of what we are these days...)

Good morning all

Cyndi - I hope your kitty is better. Enjoy today's bird walk.

Ruth - goose poop polka-dots cracked me up.

Linda - Oh I hope your dad is okay. Sounds scary.

Twynn - I hope the food was fabulous.

Today I am checking out an art fair with my mom. She shops for real, I just look.
