Default A suprise side benefit to my new weight

For the last 20 years when I wore shoes with a heel, my feet hurt. I attributed this to the fact that working from home I barely wear shoes and most of the time when I'm out in public, I wear trainers. So I thought I just wasn't used to them anymore and gradually the dress shoes in my closet have become flats.

Then I read on here that some folks were looking forward to wearing heels again once they lost weight. Duh! I hadn't thought that 100 extra lbs of body weight was putting a lot more pressure on my feet. I wondered if maybe I could wear heels again.

Now I happen to have a pair of shoes with 1.5 inch heel that I had to purchase for a show choir I used to sing in. Last night I was getting dressed to go out and I decided to wear those shoes. Now the evening's plans did include some walking, so I threw my flats in my bag just in case...

Success! These shoes used to just kill me when I wore them for an hour. Yesterday I had them on for 7 hours and no pain at all. Now I know 1.5 inches isn't exactly towering, but this was a really nice side benefit of weight loss that I wasn't expecting, and yes, will be buying some 2 inch heels next!

Have you gotten any suprise benefits you weren't expecting?

Oh wow. I wonder...I've ALWAYS hated heels, even when I only weighed 135 pounds. I wore heels to my wedding, but in all the pictures I had kicked them off and was just rising up on my toes when the photographer said "one-two-three". But I think heels would do wonders for my calves...something I didn't think about then.

Nice, about the heels! I really missed wearing heels when I got fat and was eager to start wearing them again.

One unexpected benefit for me is that I don't get horrible headaches all the time now. Not positive it's weight-related because I had migraines even before I got fat, but wow, they are MUCH better now.

My heels are also more comfortable now that I weigh less; however, i never stopped wearing them, just learned to suffer

I'm a full-time student and the best thing for me is fitting in those darn small desks at school. Those ones that are basically just an uncomfortable plastic chair with a little wooden platform attached? I used to just barely smush into one and three hour classes were slightly nightmarish. Now, I have room, I can breathe and wiggle if I need to. SO much nicer!

Unexpected benefit to weightloss? Bending and stretching is easier. It seems like a 'duh', but I have always been a flexible person with a large range of motion.... I hadn't realized how much MORE I can bend and flex without fat in the way. It was artificially limiting my range to less than my joints could actually do.

And yes, that contributes to the bedroom too

I can't wait to be able to wear heels. I buy them and dream of wearing them, but I'm like you they hurt. Hopefully some day I will be in your "shoes"!
