hey girls, I'm beat tonight. The show opens Tuesday afternoon and there is much left to do but most of the hanging is finished. There isn't a website up yet but I'll let you know if we do put one up. There are 10 faculty members, we all do something different, I think we look pretty good.
Sigh, judi I meant to look at the dolls but forgot to before I started posting. I will though. I remember when I was a little girl I always wanted a nun doll.
Our cool weather isn't here yet, but a cool front is moving through over the weekend that will bring us down into the mid/low 80s. That sounds good, we're supposed to get a little rain too.
I think D is doing much better as I have seen very little of her this week. She comes home every weekend. There isn't too much to do in the little town where the school is and most of the students do go home. I saw her about 10 minutes tonight before she went out with her girlfriend that is also home for the weekend. I think now is the part where I start missing her because she is getting involved in her classes and meeting new people. That's good, that's how it should be. I have restrained myself from calling her several times in the last 3 or 4 days. I did see her long enough to learn that her piano teacher wants her to practice 2 hrs. a day. She is finding that teachers are more demanding in college. She is bright and has been able to slide by with little effort so now she's finding out what it is like to have to work at her grades. That is good too.
Well, I have been doing good this week. Keeping up with exercise and food. Though tonight I just had to break down and buy a pizza. That is what happens when you get too tired. BUT, after supper I walked about 1 1/2 miles so I don't feel too bad. I have been walking more and doing fewer videos. I'll be kayaking this weekend.
Haven't done very well in the exercise dept. this week, hopefully I'll do better this coming week. I have been seriously considering one of Tony Little's Gazelles, but I don't know if it will be just one more piece of exercise equipment that I don't use. I am having trouble with both knees when I walk, DH has a problem with his knees, and since the Gazelle is a non-impact aerobic exercise, it might be better for us. Plus, it gives you a whole body workout. I do find Tony Little very annoying, so I don't know if I could actually watch one of his videos.
ledom, after all that hard work getting ready for the show, you probably deserved a pizza. I tend to get foods like that whenever I'm tired. Keep up the walking, before you know it it will be too cold to go outside. I probably can squeak by 1 or 2 more months, possibly 3 if we have a mild Dec. I hope you get some cooler weather this weekend. WOW!! 2 hrs. piano practice a day is a lot! Does your D mind practicing that long?
judi, I will definitely check out that doll sight. I meant to yesterday, but forgot...another senior moment Oh, poor Bentley. I'm sure Gramma will have him in tip-top shape in no time. Can he have cottage cheese? I remember when we had to give Shamrock a special diet when she had some sort of infection in her system, and we gave her mashed potatoes. Please keep me posted on how he is doing. Good luck on your 2 days of classes. I'm with you, I'd rather be doing something else too!
The both of you take care and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
judi, those dolls are amazing. Have you selected your favorite? I have two dolls saved from my childhood that could possibly be collector's dolls. One is a Shirley Temple Doll and the other one is priceless to me. It is a Little LuLu ragdoll that my mother made for me. Watching her make it constitues my first memory as a child. I was 2 or 3.
Alice, I think D feels challenged by 2 hrs. of practice, but I don't think she is totally against it. She has an innate talent for it, inherited from her Dad. She normally practices an hour a day and occasionally longer as it is. This particular teacher, I just bet, is going to be a great mentor and role model for her. D has always responded well to her music teachers and she has been lucky to have had 2 really good ones up to this point. Not only did the current teacher assign these 2 hr. practices, she took time to look at D's schedule and talk to her about time management - not something D takes well from me, but from someone like her piano teacher she is willing to listen.
I have gotten in to the habit of walking at night. Sometimes this is the only exercise of the day, but on mornings when I have time I try to do something then too. I think this has been a good way to mix things up and stun my body into responding a little differently. I am not exactly on a roll, but I am beginning to feel some positive changes in the last couple of weeks. Thank goodness, because I was falling into some bad habits there for a while.
Hope everyone is well and the puppies are well too. The cats are looking good these days. RM seems to have gotten over whatever was making him act so weird, seems more like his old self these days.
It's a dreary day...we are going to get some rain today, they said possibly 3" in some places I'm usually not this happy about rain, but we are still in a severe drought and this should help our well situation. DH made coffee early this morning, put the timer on the coffeemaker, went downtown to get the Sun. paper, and when he came home the kitchen was flooded with coffee....he forgot to put the coffee pot in the machine. Fortunately for me, Lacee & I were sound asleep and blissfully unaware of what was happening.
judi, I went into the Blessings website, but could find nothing for dolls Was I in the wrong place? I still have my favorite childhood doll, Sad Sadie, which is taken after Pitiful Pearl. She is still in good condition and I put her as a decoration on my bed, along with a small stuffed Boston Terrier. When I was young, she went everywhere with me.
ledom, glad that RM has gotten over his fright, and both kitties are doing well. I think that's wonderful that your D doesn't mind practicing for 2 hrs. When I was about 10 or so, I took piano lessons. I had to practice for 1/2 hr., and to me that seemed like 2 hrs. I hated piano lessons!
Hi! Just type in "Blessings nun doll" in Google and it will find the site Alice. No I haven't chosen...I like the traditional habits the ones I was more familiar with as a school girl (Catholic boarding school) but I am really taken by some of the more exotic type habits of some of the dolls. It is a lot of money $$$ so I have to choose carefully. You girls saved some of your dolls! Good for you, I haven't but wish I did.
Well, I am down a size so I am happy about that.
The course was the hardest thing I ever did! But I passed the road trip test. It was on one of those BIG trucks that haul two or three trailers. I didn't have to take it out of they yard. I did have to get under the truck and set up the slack adjusters on a brake with a wrench. I still have to take the written air brakes certification test but I am not too worried about written tests. All this to be air brakes certified to drive our motor home. I do get a new liscence though which is good because I look like a fat felon on the one I have now We had to celebrate and wine and stayed in Vancouver last night at a hotel. It was fun and I was deliriously happy that I passed.
Your D must be wonderfully musically gifted Ledom!!! That is so ! The show is opening Tuesday, that will be a big day for you.
How is your weather now Alice? The leaves are turning color here. It must be so beautiful where you live this time of year.
How is Lacee doing? Yes, I think Bentley can have cottage cheese. It probably would be good for him.
I am skipping out on the next trip to Ca. I want to stay home, read and just have a quiet time. It will be ok for my DH I think because he will have to work evenings on a big project he is doing. I am worried that he will forget to eat though if I am not there. "Forget to eat" now there is a concept I have no experience with !!
We're having more computer problems . Something to do with the brand new hard drive. But, DH stopped into the computer place where we had it fixed the last time, and since the new hard drive is only a couple of weeks old, they will replace it.
judi, you must be on after losing a size! Keep it up! Also, congratulations on passing the course. That must have made you really feel good. You also had my kind of celebration I too, am Catholic and I can remember being very scared of nuns when I was in Sunday school. My parents tried to enroll me in one of the Catholic schools in our town, but in those days you had to know someone to get into one. Lacee is doing fine. We're heading down to Mass. later this morning and she's going with us. She really does ride very well. Yesterday she was being a little so we went outside where I let her run loose. She ran, and ran, and ran, I guess she had a lot of energy to release. By the time she was ready to come in, her tongue was hanging to the ground. Our front yard is quite a distance from our street, which is a dirt road, and no traffic.
ledom, today is your big day with your show. I wish you good luck with it. After it's all over have a nice celebration. I know it will be a success.
Hi Alice! How long will you going to Mass. for? Good for Lacee doing all that running. She must be feeling good! I am trying to let Marley's hair grow into a proper Lhasa Ahpso style, so he went to the doggie dresser today and had a bath but no cut. He is looking shaggy but shiny.
I loved the nuns when I was a kid. I was one of the pain in the @## type kids...they loved me too UNTIL they got to know me better. I have such good memories of those women. I went to two Catholic boarding schools. My father was dying of cancer in my grade 11 year and they just kept me for nothing the last part of the school year. These were Sisters of Providence. Really wonderful, wonderful women. I often think about them and wonder how they are doing. I know a couple of the nuns I used to know left.
And speaking of nuns I ordered a Felician Sister's nun doll. She has a brown, black and white habit. Very pretty. I have 2 other black and white habit ones.
Ledom, how is the show going? Do you have a "soiree" type thing tonight?
It is amazing even with the small weight I have lost I feel so energized!! What would happen if I lost the weight I should???
We are having the most beautiful fall weather. It just makes one want to go outside. The garden is still putting on a good fall show too. I bought some allium bulbs to plant for spring...purple fragrant ones that are supposed to be 3 feet tall.
That smilie is ME after yesterday. This week has been so busy, 2 12 hr. days in a row - but now I can ease up. The show was fabulous. It looked very nice and I think the crowd that showed up was 3 times what we usually have for our openings. Very gratifying, all the faculty went home with a warm glow last night. I even sold a piece which I wasn't expecting. judi, our receptions are in the afternoons, we mainly reach our own little community though several people drove in from out of town. We serve refreshments, though no wine as we are on campus in a dry county at that (middle of the bible belt). Always in the past we have been required to use the caterer under contract to the University, but I had a hissy fit over that this year as they had jacked up thier already astronomical prices. I was given permission to go elsewhere so I catered it. We had better and MORE food for the money. I was so pleased because we had just the right amount of food too - we would have run out 1/2 way through spending the same money with the other guys. Anyway, thanks for asking - it has been consuming me but I am glad it is over with now.
Ah, the down side. I haven't had time to take care of business like daily exercise or even eating properly. I am ready to get back to it today.
How was your trip Alice? Did you get to shop or sightsee any?
judi, I'm glad you get to stay home for the next trip. It is good to hear from you regularly. You guys have turned into a touchstone for me.
ledom, I am so happy for you that your show was a success. That must've been a big job catering the affair. Did you prepare all the food yourself? Now that it's over you can relax a bit.
judi, I did find the Blessings site. The dolls are simply beautiful. I am glad that you have fond memories of the nuns. I did see the Nun Doll in the Sisters of Province habit. Do you have that one? I do remember one order that the habit was brown. My favorite was at the end, one of the orders had a gray habit.
I have found that there is a WW express meeting at 9:00 am on Tuesdays about 20 min. from my house. I am toying with the idea of joining. I honestly don't know. If I do it on my own, I just get lazy with counting points, this way I'm forced to keep track of my food. It won't be too bad because I do my grocery shopping in the same town, so I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone
Our weather is rather fallish too. We have fog in the morning, you can see the steam rising from the lake. I see more and more leaves turning. We've got another month to go before we are a peak.
Had a great trip to Mass. yesterday. There is a bakery on the NH side of the Mass. border that bakes everything sugarfree. I bought a SF Apple pie, some low-carb muffins, their bread, which they call Mountain Bread, which is paper thin and very large (both DH & I split one) that is good for roll-ups, and as a treat, 2 sugarfree cheesecake tarts.
judi, congratulations on your weight loss. Sorry I didn't say something earlier. A smaller size and more energy - WAY TO GO! And now it is fall, the best dieting season, there'll be no stopping you!
Hey, it finally rained. Our cool front never made it last week but it looks promising for this weekend. It was just so nice to go outside this morning and find the ground and pavement wet. Recently it has been so dry and the rain so sparse that the little we got evaporated immediately.
I have today off and am so happy to get to relax. I plan to clean a little and read some and rest a lot. I have my classes in a good place now, first tests on Monday so I don't have tons of preparation now.
Alice, by catering it myself it did cause more work but in weighing everything out I think I will continue. The caterer at school was hard to work with. Catering might give the wrong impression, the only food preparation was to slice cheese and summer sausage. Just planning, shopping, getting serving plates, etc. I am at my best planning a party for some reason. Maybe I should have been a caterer in real life.
Glad to hear the show was a success, Ledom! What was the piece you sold like? You must be very good at organizing those functions by now. I tip my hat! I could never do something like that...I would be a nervous wreck!
Alice, that bakery sounds fabulous!! I wish we had something like that here. Honestly, we don't have REALLY good baking in Canada. (my apologies to any Canadian bakers out there...I am speaking from my own experience only) Well, probably in Quebec but not in the other parts of it that I have been. It NEVER is as good as you can make at home and it doesn't even BEGIN to compare with Europe. I spent a year in Europe in the 70's and than have been there on and off about 10 times since and that is the thing I ALWAYS notice...the stupendous baking over there...(and the cheese, and the wines
I ordered a brown habit doll and I bought a new black habit doll off of ebay! I like the gray Maryknoll sister's habit too.
Yes, I am feeling ENERGIZED! It is the fall weather I think.
I am going to miss my DH but I am looking forward to a big block of time to read and just be quiet. Walk and that sort of thing. I think it will be a good 2 weeks. I am hoping anyway.
judi, the photo is taken from my kayak and it is "waterscape". I was back in a little creek with water plants on both sides and overhanging trees, it pictures the long distance back across the lake.
How do you display your dolls?
Alice, what's up with you?
This morning I am loading up both kayaks and taking one of my co-workers out before going into work at 10. It will be a good way to start the day.
Met my GF for our weekly luncheon and shopping date. Had a great lunch. JC Penney was having a fabulous sale and I bought a light tan suede vest, plus a brown cardigan sweater with burnt orange and gold appliqued leaves. I had planned on giving the sweater to my cousin for her birthday, but I love the sweater so much I decided to keep it for myself.
ledom, how was your kayaking trip this morning? I bet it was beautiful out on the water. We have been having unusual summer like weather this past week. It's been in the low 80's. I hope we will have a fairly mild winter. We may see some rain by Monday.
judi, my late aunt used to correspond with a priest with the Maryknoll Missions. I forget which undeveloped country they were in. This priest had been to her house on numerous occasions. I too think fall weather is very invigorating. October is my favorite month. I tend to enjoy it when DH is away overnight, or even for a whole day. I get to do what I want...UMMMM, I should say whateve Lacee wants. How is Bentley doing, and how does Marley like having Bentley around?
I have been cramming like crazy for the written part of the air brakes certification course. I plan to write the test at the end of the week. I tried once and failed it. DUHH. SO now I have to pass (I can't stand the stress) actually I have 2 more tries before I have to do the course over...which I don't want to have to do. So now I am studying properly....
Bentley is at home. He might come on the weekend but I don't know if I will be up for my D. Too much energy...I like things quiet. If I pass the test I will want to crash if I fail I will have to study. The pass is 80% and for someone now mechanically inclined it is hard.
Yes, fall is wonderful here too. I just love it.
Ledom, your photo sounds just wonderful.
DH is gone for 2 weeks. I miss him but I am getting some reading done. What did you do on your day without hubby Alice?
I don't know how I will display the dolls, I will have 4. The poseable ones with porcelin (sp.) faces I will maybe sit in some extra chairs I have in the living room and the Blessing ones maybe put in my bedroom. If I get more I will buy some shelves I guess. I don't want to keep them in the boxes. (Though I will keep the boxes).
I think I will turn in early tonight. Night girls!
