I'm also interested in his insight that he has replaced one addiction with another, going from being obsessed with food to being obsessed with running. I think this is true for me, too, but to a far lesser degree, and because I work on keeping it in check. And I think it may be true for otehrs as well.

He's not the only formerly obese runner I know who is fairly obsessed with running (who me?). My friend who is on the U.S. National 24 hr racing team is a self described addict. He ran 938 miles in March. But he says it is who he is and he HAS to be obsessed with something. He also pretty much thinks that when he decides he is done being obsessed with running, he may just stop cold turkey and be obsessed with something else.
