I'm back to counting calories after playing around some with WW and SB. I really liked both, particularly SB, so I've been trying to incorporate some of their ideals into my calorie counting. Unfortunately, that means I'm trying to get in a lot of good fats, which I'm pretty sure is hindering my weight loss. I realized this morning I really have no idea what a good daily intake of fat is (in grams) based on ~1500 calorie diet. I'm sure I can Google it, but I'd like to see if any of you keep track or notice a difference when you alter daily fat intake.
hey spoon. i found your post interesting as I am also trying to start calorie counting, incorporating the SBD way of eating as well. Even before I started SB, I had been recording calories on sparkpeople, and noticed that sometimes my days would be made up of 40% fat (even tho its good fat, OMG!). I am attempting a 1200-1550 calorie diet, and have been recommended to keep fat grams (made up of mostly healthy fats) from 32-56 grams per day. I think it is hard sometimes when your diet is low-carb, to keep the fats down as well, but it is an ongoing process. Good luck!
I'm doing both SBD and calorie counting also. I tend to eat ~30-40% fat. I still lose the weight so I'm not too worried about it. As long as my calories are within range. I try to keep my intake around 40% protein and 30% fat and 30% good whole grain/veggie/bean carbs. Which with a 1400 calorie diet is about 47 g of fat daily.
I tend to eat in the range of 60 to 80 grams of fat per day--this comes mostly from fish oil, almonds, peanut butter, some from meat or cheese, and a little olive oil. Generally that means I'm getting 25 to 40% of calories from fat. However, I also keep my calorie intake fairly high due to all the activity that I do.
Hey everyone, thanks for your input. While I'm happy to see I appear to be in the right range, especially given my regular exercise schedule, now I'm just at more of a loss as to why I've been stuck for the past week or so. :-\
You're not "stuck" if it's only been a week. Especially for a woman, and especially if you are exercising, your body will retain water which can mask fat loss. It's not a true stall unless it's gone on for a month or longer.
I just try and aim for a proper amount of protein and fiber, and let everything else fall as it may. I do try and keep my sugar intake (not from fruit) low, as well as my bad fats.
