Default Day One and I've already messed up....

So, today marks day one of induction for me... I thought I did so well, but as I was plugging in my foods to check my total carbs and %'s of macro-nutrients, I realized a big mistake...

I had a few tablespoons of beans on my salad, counting them as protein. There were 14 carbs just in those few tablespoons! A quick peek in the book told me I'd made a mistake. Beans are not allowed yet.

So here's my question - do I have to start over at day one tomorrow? Or am I pretty much okay if I don't keep doing it?

My total carbs were 23 grams today, and I have 30-35 pounds to lose. I also had 7 grams of fiber, so does that make it 16 grams? Can I still enter ketosis with the few beans I ate?

Hi there-
Don't beat yourself up, you are doing fine. Whether you want to have your start date tomorrow or keep it as today is totally up to you. Don't stress over it. Sounds like you did better than alot of people that start out.

How about you just say you started induction today and will start a clean induction tomorrow...

Print out the approved list and highlight all the items you normally eat and the items you like to eat that way you can automatically look at it and know what it is you can have.... I have a pocket sized list... and works perfect.

And not sure on your count... as far as the 7 grams of fiber goes... if everything you put down was NET carbs then the fiber is already taken out of the total you gave us. If not then go ahead and subtract it. Like I said not sure how you had the totals going.

No matter what just keep at it. 5 Pounds or 30 Pounds if you keep at it then you will definitely be at the weight you want to be. Some people want the right now results, don't get frustrated just keep at it and you will get there.

Ketosis is kind of tricky - I think everyone has to figure out what works for them. For example, I would never ever hit ketosis starting at anywhere near 20 carbs during induction. Even with few carbs I never enter deep ketosis - I never see the last two dark purple squares. I'm sure there are others who hit it easily on 20 carbs.

Okay, thanks guys. The carb count was just total carbs, not net carbs. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what I'm doing here!

Today will definitely be better. I'm going to print a list of approved foods like sail recommended. That will make it much easier, so that I'm not constantly checking the book for everything.

Should I buy ketosis strips? I had debated it yesterday, but I decided I wasn't sure if I needed it.

Another question - my nutrient calculator calculates calories, too, and mine seemed kind of low yesterday...just under 1200. Did I eat too little? I felt stuffed all day.

That is honestly a good question. Alot of people are always asking that and the answer is usually YMMV. I would not suggest to go below that or hover around that.... only because your body is a machine that needs to be fueled regularly. While doing Atkins it is not necessary to count your calories but remember calories do count. I would look at my meals/snacks and find a way to add some calories to it without adding bulk.....

I am sure alot of people would disagree with me and that is totally ok... we all have an idea of how things should be done.... I am just thinking that what I do when I have a low day is to add something small to my next meals that will ge me a better calorie level.... ie.. salad dressing or condiment or maybe even a couple more ounces of meat... will add 50-200 calories that would still be approved of.

You are doing an awesome job. The normal status is eat until you are pleasantly full. YMMV.

I hope this helps... as far as ketostix... I don't even know what one looks like. I hear they are helpful.... I just can't get around looking at a pee stick to see if I am eating right....lol... sorry... it's just me... maybe one day.. if you get them holla at me and tell me what you think.

I get the keto sticks so I know for sure when I am in ketosis. The first time I did Atkins, I took me awhile to figure out how many carbs it takes to get my body to that point. IT is a nice visual that you are eating correctly. I am a visual person - plus it keeps me motivated if the scale isn't moving. Walgreens has their own brand if you decide to try them. Ours keeps them back behind the pharmacy.

Keep in mind the ketostix do not work for everyone. I lost over 100 lbs on Atkins and those stix never changed color for me
