Default Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution - Did I get the right one?

I want the 2002 version, however this one says completely updated, etc... the copyright says 1992, 1999, 2002. Anyone know if this is the last one Dr. Atkins wrote before he passed away?

Thanks!

Yes, you got the right book!
Dr. Atkins passed away in 2003, anything written after that has been what I would refer to as altered.

That's the one I bought recently. What is different between the two? I actually am really responding to what is written in it so far and it seems quite similar to the Atkins book I read a long time ago but I don't remember well enough to recall all the differences.

I'm going to preface this by saying I am die hard Atkins. The "new" Atkins book titled "New Atkins For A New You" was not written by Dr. Robert Atkins. It was written by Dr. Eric C. Westman, an associate professor of medicine at Duke University Health System and director of the Duke Lifestyle Medicine Clinic, Dr. Stephen D. Phinney, a Professor of Medicine Emeritus at UC Davis, and Jeff S. Volek,an Assistant Professor in The Human Performance Laboratory at The University of Connecticut. While I feel (and this is my personal opinion), the book is a good accompaniment to the original Atkins 72 & Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002 & prior editions), it most definitely is no substitute. To do Atkins and to do Atkins correctly, I put my trust in Dr. Atkins not in Atkins Nutritionals Inc. or the authors of this new book. Like I said, this is my opinion. Its not law, its not gospel, its what has worked for me

I understand. You found something that works so it's in your nature to stick with it. They really are quite close to the same, I think. Anyway, that's neither here nor there to me personally. Since I am not "die hard" I am okay with some variances and playing around to find what works for me. I'm glad you have had such success in your journey. You are quite an inspiration!

I can certainly understand your feelings about Dr. Atkins' work, but are there any differences in the plans between his books and the new one? I know the earlier books have worked for you, so if there are any major changes, I'm thinking I should ditch this one and look for an older version.

Hi Laurie,
My issue with new book is that it advocates bars & shakes on Induction as long as they are not more than 3 net carbs
It also claims sugar alcohols & Glycerine can be deducted from total carb counts because they do not affect blood sugar. This is not true for everyone and is really pretty much a YMMV issue.
This is a helpful article on both those issues:

As I mentioned, the new Atkins book is a good accompaniment for the older versions of Atkins...but, and again, this is solely my opinion, its not a substitute for what Dr. Atkins himself wrote.

Thanks for that article, Kim. It makes a lot of sense about the sugar alcohols. I believe I'm in that sensitive category.

I too have the brand new book as well as the old one. Can someone clear up the issue of eggs for me? I thought the older book said eggs were unlimited, however the new book says "Remember that each egg is 0.6g of carbs". Do you count the carbs of eggs???

The original version of Atkins (72) advises unlimited eggs, the 2002 version advises eggs can be eaten "liberally" (generously). Each egg is 0.6 carbs. Personally, I've never counted the carbs in eggs. I typically eat 2 a day but, have been known to have as many as 6 a day. I've never had any issue's.
