  • Well ... the things you learn while surfing the net!

As a nurse and here at 3FC, I'm surprised how much people don't know about healthy bowel habits.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_Stool_Scale
  • Have you never used the Bristol Stool Scale? You surprise me! We use it all the time over here.
  • Oh my goodness. That's - well - interesting!

By the way, SusanB, is that what you mean by Move Yourself?
  • Funny, because I was sort of wondering about digestive health this morning!
  • Quote: Have you never used the Bristol Stool Scale? You surprise me! We use it all the time over here.
Consider me one who has never used it! I have heard of Bristol-Myers...I have heard of Bristol, VT...I have heard of The Bristol Stomp...but I had never heard of The Bristol Stool Scale before this moment
  • OMG...that is too funny! I'm in my last year of nursing school and have yet to see this chart. I do believe my classmates would get a kick out of this! I also work at the largest hospital in Lexington and no one has ever mentioned it, thankfully.
  • i think this chart would really be useful in the U.s. It seems like the word "diarrhea" is often overused for any soft stool.
  • I had no idea there was a poop chart, LOL!
Good to know I am doing extremely well in that department, hah!
  • Hahaha. Very, um, informative!
  • That is actually very informative Susan! And, oddly amusing to me.

Alena - I am not doing so well... sadness...
  • Hmmm.... how is it that I'm normally a 4 but feel constipated!! Weird.

I'm actually very glad you posted that.
  • Solidly informative
  • No, we've never used that! We have 8 or 10 descriptive terms we use but no official chart. We might use it now. The gals at work quite liked it too.
  • Oh! now I realize that Primm must be in the medical field also. I thought she was commenting on a cultural diff between where she lives and the States

Somewhere, on my road travels, I was at a State rest stop, and in the ladies' rest room there was a large framed picture/shadowbox thing on the wall. It contained dried ( I hope!!) different animal eliminations and labels on who they were from. Like fox, squirrel, relatively small forest folks no bear samples

but back to the OP, I guess it is valuable to have a standard to compare to!
  • Oh there's Holly! I now have the Bristol Stomp stuck in my head!!!
