This is probably my 3rd introduction on the site as a newbie. Let's hope I never have to do it again!
I just started my first day on Atkins Induction today. So far so good, usually I bail on the first few hours - this is a big improvement. My big weight loss goal is to have a normal BMI (145) and pants that aren't double digits (I'm a 12 and can't seem to leave that wretched number).
Today I've had:
Breakfast: 2 T of (SF) chicken salad, 2 slices cheese on romaine lettuce
(I absolutely despise eggs.)
Snack: 5 olives
Lunch: 1/2 c broccoli, with serving of hamburger florentine
Dinner: 1 cup salad w/ T blue cheese dressing, serving of hamburger florentine
Here's to not bailing tomorrow!
If anyone has any suggestions or even some much needed words of wisdom, let me know!
Congrats on starting Atkins and sticking to it today. Now...you may feel a bit of low energy, achiness and even cravings for a few days in the beginning but once you kick into fat-burning mode, you'll feel fabulous...with lots of energy and decreased appetite.
By the "SF", did you mean salt-free or sugar-free? I wasn't sure. Your menu looks good for today. Did you put butter on your broccoli? You have to make sure you get your fat....not getting enough fat can slow down the loss. Amazing but true. Get that butter and mayo in there when you can.
I eat lots of chicken salad. I love it. Just steam skinless and boneless breasts, dice them, add mayo and veggies and voila! I always try to keep something like that ready-made in the fridge at all times.....but chicken salad is my favorite ready-made item.
It's funny but when I did Atkins years ago, I remember getting really sick of protein (chicken, fish and eggs) but that hasn't happened this time. I think it might be because I really made an effort to eat all sorts of varied veggies...cooked, steamed, broiled....and in salads.
Thanks Deena! By SF I meant sugar free, I didn't make this chicken salad it was from a deli. I actually put the hamburger mixture over the broccoli, but next time I'll eat it separate with some butter
Welcome shaljg85!
I read so many posts on this site, and get more motivated when people such as Deena reply with some great advice. There are so many great "Words of Wisdom, support, and many have "been there, done that" and know what's helped them. Keeps me from making some mistakes, I make enough on my own.
So I appreciate all of the replies, advice, comments, etc...
By the way Deena, I'm going to use your idea for chicken salad and keep that handy. I could eat that for breakfast as well.
I get a little tired of eggs, omlets, quiches, etc...but chicken salad (I even am defrosting a turkey breast, bught a couple extra during Thanksgiving) and I'll make turkey salad.
Know what I like about Atkins?> I can eat things I usually feelk guilty about eating! I eat a lot of tuna salad with yep- real mayo. I put it on low carb tortillla and make a wrap - totally fills me up for lunch! I also love braunschweiger!! You have to find the brand that is one carb - I slice it and add mayo - yum!!! Wings-wings -wings - yeah!!!! One of my all time favorite foods!!! (I buy the frozen so I know exactly the carb content). Life is sweet!!!

And here I thought I was the only one who likes that stuff. I was thinking about that the other day, wondering if it had many carbs or not. I'll have to check it out. I love that with mayo. Hold the white bread now, but I'd eat it in a thick slice with mayo.
LisaSue......I actually did much better this time around when it came to the issue of getting sick of proteins. Last time....the first thing I got sick of and couldn't even stand to smell, was eggs. Second was meat. And third was fish.
It's funny....it wasn't like it was my intention to do it differently this time around in order to remedy that issue......but once folks here started to mention it, I realized I'd not gotten sick of anything this time....and to this day, I'm not sick of any of the foods.
To be fair, I was working full-time back then. This time around, I take care of my dad so cook a lot for him and have adequate time to make things like chicken salad. I always make my own because the pre-made ones at the grocery store always have sugar and too many carbs listed on the ingredients. Plus, I love chicken salad...esp. homemade.
I was eating on the run a lot back then. In fact, I ate way more nuts, pork rinds, plain hotdogs, cold cuts and things like that due to being out of the house so much.....and having nothing else available that would have been on plan. This time, I eat only controlled portions of nuts and I've barely eaten any pork rinds. Basically eating whole foods.
I'll tell you....if you shop at Costco.....they sell these huge half a salmon fillets that are already cleaned and skinned and the price is good and it's really good, fresh fish and delicious. I buy several of them every few months, cut them into portions (just use kitchen shears and cut across the fillet into rectangular pieces and freeze them).
I think one of the problems last time is that I ate too much plain protein....hard-boiled eggs, chicken and other meats and fish. This time around I only eat normal portions of protein and add so many vegetables, esp. the salads.....that I've not gotten sick of anything. And it's kind of a big deal because I did run into some difficulty once that happened to me. Just the smell of eggs, meats and fish began to make me feel nauseous. Luckily, I was near goal (only had 30 lbs. to lose totally back then) and started maintenance fairly quickly and sorta got over the "sick of" problem.
In fact, I have pretty much avoided hard-boiled eggs altogether...except in egg salad once in a while. The hard-boiled eggs last time were what I REALLY go sick of pretty fast. This time I make eggs into omelets and always add veggies/cheese/bacon, etc.
My all-time favorite meal, though, is farmer cheese with cut up tomatoes and cucumber...sprinkled with onion powder and parsley. I just love it...even crave it sometimes. The farmer cheese can be difficult to find....I have to go to a GIANT (SuperG) grocery store in order to get it. And then I have to go to an altogether different store (Food Lion) to get that Duke's mayo, which is the only mayo I've found so far that has no sugar in it.....although, if I have to, I'll use regular mayo because it never seems to negatively affect my ketosis or weight loss. One other thing I might have liked to have had was that liquid Splenda....but you can't get it at any store, apparently and have to buy it off the internet. For me, it seems like it was the maltodextrin added to the powdered Splenda that caused most of the problem so that I had to severely restrict how much I could use.
If I'd continued to run into problems I would have ordered the liquid Splenda on the internet....but things went fine if I restricted myself to only 3 packets daily.....so I just never got around to ordering it.
Shoot, I'm writing a book here...better stop now.

Oh, I forgot to add...that if you're in a pinch, you can make chicken salad using the canned chicken also. There are several brands with no carbs. Just mix with mayo, add to bag of pre-shredded lettuce/salad mix....and can add other veggies like cucumbers, tomatoes, etc. You can also toss in cheese and or bacon for variety.
I have sort of an issue with eggs. If they're mixed with something, or if I add hot sauce to a hard boiled egg, I can hold it down. For some reason, eating a hard boiled egg (plain), a fried egg or deviled eggs, I get so nauseated and before one bite of egg is swallowed, up it comes. ugh...... but I can eat pickled eggs, omelets (but I add a couple dashes of hot sauce), so maybe there's something to adding a vinegar type ingredient to eggs, I can then hold down.
I've gone to Costco before, but now I go to Sam's Club. I moved and Costco is a lot further than Sam's is, and Sam's also have those beautiful salmon filets. I used to make them in the broiler with a honey mustard dressing. They are so good. How do you make yours? I need to find another recipe, since the honey mustard is a no-no.
I backed off eating pork rinds, could and did eat an entire bag. I used to "mindlessly munch" at my desk at work, or when I was bored. I knew I did that and I don't anymore, but I need to pay attention or I could.
I stopped eating lunch meats, because I wasn't losing. I'm eating real food, real meats, hardly anything processed, except for sugar free bacon which I can only find at Krogers. Maybe spicey kielbaski fried up with cabbage and onions in butter.
I received EZ-Sweet yesterday, from Netrition .com. I read all of the reviews and they were very positive and detailed, but I'm not too impressed, it has a slight aftertaste, maybe I just need to get used to it. I do prefer Splenda, but, I've cut back to 2 or 3 packets a day, one (or two) in my morning coffee, with heavy cream and Coconut oil and if I have decaf in the evening, I add it to a cup of decaf with the heavy cream & CO.
I lost 4 lbs (since I last got on the scale last week), I was afraid to, because yesterday at work, being unprepared, I had two heaping teaspoons of peanut butter. I would almost guess that some days, I'm not getting enough calories or fat, which is why I add coconut oil. Anyhow, the scale showed a loss, and I'm so happy about that, but I seem to lose and gain the same 2 to 4 lbs. Maybe with all of the tweaking I'm doing, the 4 lbs. will be permanent.
Hoping so.
Hi everyone - I am new here. I was on the "official" website forum and got tired of getting thumped all the time. I am 41 and my weight loss goal is a 93 pounds. I have about 60 pounds to go until I reach my goal.
