Default On the topic of bikinis

I've been very offput from wearing a bikini. I was searching for bikini photos for inspiration for my weight loss, and I came across "Miss Surrey" a SIZE 16 contestant in the Miss England beauty pagent! I thought we might be moving in the right direction, away from this "size 0 perfection" idea... I found this artical with a photo (edited to add link now that I have over 25 posts: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...ini-shoot.html). Now I think she looks GREAT, way better than me... I wish I looked like that.

....But then I saw the comments at the bottom I guess the UK is not ready for size 16s in bikinis after all! I can't believe how cruel they are being about someone who looks 10x better than me... what would they say about me and MY body, which is not only size 16 but covered in stretchmarks and sagging skin?? I must be truly gross then

Ugh. She's really beautiful. And to work that bikini like she did in that photo is amazing! I googled her weight and apparently it equals 176lbs. I hope I have the same confidence she does when I get down to that weight!

Chunkey Munkey...holy cow, I just googled Crystal Renn, and I'm 100% straight, but dayumn! She has a beautiful womanly body, and I actually have a fairly similar body type. That makes me feel wonderful, lol. I heart her too!

As for the OP, I think she's also a beautiful girl. I agree that she looks heavier than 176lbs at 5'10. I personally don't think I looked that heavy at 183 and 5'9, but who knows. I also don't think that's a particularly flattering bikini, but props to her for having the guts to show herself off. I invite any of the people throwing their judgements around to model in front of the world in a skimpy swimsuit.

I don't think she looks big for her weight and height... I'm 178lbs at 5ft 7 and I look WAY bigger than her!

Crystal Renn isn't over weight is she? From her height and weight I'd say she has a bmi of 24 or something? 'Overweight' for a model maybe but she looks great and is a healthy weight Good to see some NORMAL women on the modelling scene

I came across something called, "thinspiration" on my hunt for photos to motivate and inspire me on my weight loss journey and it is truly disgusting - Photos of sick and deprived anorexics, which other women aspire to. I wish there were more women out there like Crystal Renn who women could see day-to-day, and hopefully if there were we would realise how beautiful and sexy you can be without resorting to achieving an unhealthy size 0 and a bmi of 13.

I agree that I think she looks heavy for 176/5'10. I'm 177 and 5'4 right now, and I think I look better in a bikini, but who cares - she has the confidence to wear it.

And I once saw a picture of Kim Kardashian in a bikini with all of these negative comments about her being "too hippy" to wear that bathing suit. I didn't see a hip on her - the point is, people are going to be negative, no matter what - they just want to make themselves feel better.

Take a cue from this model, if you want to wear a bikini, wear it and ROCK IT with your attitude!!

So true, if you're wearing a bikini it's all about attitude. They are some great sites for plus size swimsuits and those models (size 22+) are gorgeous because of their confidence. I'm loving that 'normal' size women are starting to be more accepted in pageants/tv/movies. Hopefully someday a story like this won't make the news...

IMO the bikini is not super flattering on her, but she is very pretty. I am jealous of her confidence.

Yeah, she's for sure way heavier than 176. I'm around 5'10 and she looks about the size I was...maybe a little bigger...at 220. It may be a body shape deal though. She's kind of apple shaped, whereas i've always been a rectangle...I don't store fat in my abdomen and boobs as much specifically. I'm weird.

I think it's partly the camera angle; it looks like it's almost shot from below, so her head appears smaller and her legs look bigger. But I do think I looked about how she does when I was ~180lbs, except subtract some fat from her boobs and add it to her lower belly, and I'm only 5'5".

But I was also wearing and rocking bikinis at that size too

It's just the camera angle. I believe the weight (give or take a few pounds). Honestly, she is probably really fit, but that angle would be crappy on anyone

I'll agree with those think the photo shoot was intended to play up the "big girl" angle.

I'm also going to go out on a limb and say they intentionally refrained from touching up the photo the way they usually would fix a model's minor imperfections. In magazines, even plus sized models get the Photo Shop treatment to smooth out any lumpiness or bulges.
