Default Newly Diagnosed Metabolic Syndrome

New here and my name pretty much says it all.
I don't have PCOS that I know of...infertility is not one of my issues as it seems to be with most with PCOS. Though I know there are other symptoms that one can have or not have.
I do seem to have loads of other issues though including insulin issues (diagnosed July 09), high cholesterol, newly diagnosed blood pressure (never had issues with that even when pregnant), thyroid issues. Also throw in depression before all of that so those issues just add more.
I had tons of blood work done last year and one hormone was post menopausal (I am 37). I can't seem to get an answer about that one but seeing a new Dr very soon so maybe he can help.
I have always followed a pretty good low fat diet but with everything else I need to watch (carbs, sodium, calories), I am in tears almost daily (if not blowing a gasket). I have started to keep a detailed journal and it makes me cringe when I mess up (like today). Especially when the weight won't budge anymore.
I am hoping I can get support on here (I get absolutely none at home) even if it is just a "hi".

Hello! Another Metabolic Syndrome X chick here!

First of all I'm glad to see you are seeing a different doc, I know I'd want that out of whack hormone answered. That could very well be contributing to ALOT of this stuff!

You've got all the classic Insulin Resistant symptoms, theres no real test for that really just symptoms and indicators. Have you seen the Insulin Resistant Diet book? Thats the plan I follow for my IR. To me its really simple. I would recommend just looking at it. Its made a big difference in how I feel and my energy.

I sure hope you get to feeling better very soon! Lifes too short to be so miserable no?? Dont be so hard on yourself, noone is perfect and the stress can do lots of damage! Chin up! Make the best decisions you can, and remember you arent alone in this!!

Thanks for the welcome.
I ordered the book through my library system right before I became a member here. Happened across the thread for it first then started to look around.
I decided to make today my rare (maybe 3 times a year) "eat anything" day since my fat intake is really off for some reason.
My old Dr was a goner when she informed me I was old and fat then proceeded to throw a prescription at me then walked out. I did a meet and greet with this new Dr a few weeks ago and see him in a few days. I am really hoping my BP is down since I stopped a few medicines that could cause it to be elevated. Even 1 less med would make me a happy camper.

since when is 37 old??!!! I'm 37 and I assure you I've yet to grow up! LOL!

Yanno, with IR you can eat low fat till the cows come home and chances are you arent gonna lose any weight. Because typically eating low fat means you eat higher carb which raises your blood glucose which is what is making your body store fat. IR isnt about eating low carb either, its about balancing your meals.

I'm with you, I'm not a pill taker...the only thing I take is a Vitamin D3.

Hi! I wanted to say a couple of things:

1) I have PCOS and had metabolic syndrome - and low-fat is NOT the way to deal with it, in my opinion. What really helped me was the South Beach Diet, and I would recommend it to anyone with hormonal issues.

2) Online support can be really important for keeping you motivated and on track. Use it!

Hi!

I am Insulin Resistant (or at least thought to be). My hormones (estrogen and progesterone) are very low but I'm older than you.

I am 100 percent certain that this inability to lose weight came from the hormone imbalance. Problem is, no one seems to know how to fix it.

Maybe the South Beach diet as the poster mentioned above is worth looking at.

You're not too young to be starting to have fluctuations in hormones (even minor ones) that can mess with weight loss.

Who the **** WAS your doctor? Too many have a God complex, and they forget, who is working for who. A Doctor is supposted to offer support and guidance not judgement. I have been treated similarly- a year ago a doctor told me ( keep in mind I had JUST had a baby 8 weeks before that).... he told me... that there was no way I was ever thin and i needed to develop an eating disorder. A DOCTOR! I feel your pain. But i would never take that again!!

are you working out for your BP? mine has always been a perfect 120/80 even 10 months pregnant. and then 9 monthes ago all of a sudden it went nuts and they wanted to put me on meds... i had no idea what was going on but, i started doing some kickboxing to relieve paramount stress... and i went to the doc yesterday AND IT WAS 120/75 and for 9 monthes for no reason it was 158/98 it is the stress i guess i don't know and doctors can't tell me. good luck
