I work out with the Wii. I really love DDR, it have an exercise mode that tells you how many calories you burn- but i think it way overestimates (at least for me).
Just regular Wii Fit Plus I think is a good starting point for someone just starting excercise, and some things are pretty hard- kick boxing and hula hoop really can get your heart going- but most of the games are too easy.
If you really want a good workout with the Wii I suggest EA sports active, you can do it with or without the wii balance board and it comes with a resistance band that really makes your muscles sore the next day.
