Hi all, okay so I've been on this site, lost weight, gained it back, and lost it again (about 10 or so pounds)
My current stats are under my avatar. I'm 20 years old. My birthday is in August, and I really want to lose something (and keep it off) for my21st birthday. I'm just feeling really discouraged because I don't have $ to join a gym or buy anything DVDs or anything.
My only exercise of choice is jogging on the running track in the park by my home.
I'm trying my hardest to eat right, but I'm not a calorie counter at ALL, so I just decrease my portions.
I have no idea how much weight I'll be able to lose by the middle of August, and what can I do to lose X amount of pounds per month, since I know it's different based on weight/age.
Please help me I need support
Or setting a goal that is measurable other than in lbs? I dislike setting time based goals with lbs because I figure it's a healing process and my body will cope as best it can.
I would strongly rec calorie counting! When I first started it seemed so so hard but in a matter of two to three weeks it got easier. Once you start monitoring what you eat it becomes habit. Baby steps even if you can walk for a hour four or five times per week it would help. Good luck!
I calorie count and I do not go to a gym, nor do I own any DVD's. (Though the library is an excellent suggestion...you can do a DVD for a month or two if you renew and then switch it up because by then you might be bored anyway.)
I run around my ping pong table. It's nice you have a nearby park! I run up and down my stairs, do sit-ups and push-ups. I like to "sit" up against my wall and hold that position for increasing amounts of time. Squats and lunges are great. If you can swing the money for an exercise ball, I highly recommend that. I purchase hand weights now and then as I need them, but neither the ball nor the weights are necessary. A lot of the old fashioned stuff is great. I've heard great things about a resistance band, though I've never tried it myself. Jump roping is great. Dancing, roller skating, also great.
There's a site called fitday.com. You can go in there and plug in your stats, and plug in your goal, and it will tell you how many calories you need to consume each day to get your goal met. If that amount is, say, 1,500 calories, then do a google search for "1500-calorie diet". You can find sample meal plans with portions and that will give you a pretty good idea of how to eat to meet the fitday goal.
Good luck! And keep coming back. 3FC is a great place.
People are going to get sick of me recommending this site but it's really incredible. She has workouts for folks with no equipment, folks with no time ... and lots of wonderful articles and information.
I like the suggestion of checking out a work-out dvd from the library - it's free and you can trade it in if you don't like it. I also think your idea of cutting portions is a fab one! One thing I would suggest: try to make healthy choices. So while you may be cutting the portion in half... half of a plate of spaghetti would likely be fewer cals than half a plate of lasagna... Hopefully that makes sense. Also, you can work on eating more fruits and veggies to displace any poor choices you might have made in the past. Other than that, you're on the right track. Just keep pushing! It can sometimes take a bit of trial and error to determine what works for your body.
Thanks guys, I'll check out the library for DVDs that I can pop into my laptop. I'll check out the above sites as well.
I myself don't like setting time dates, but I really need something to push myself, and my birthday is the only thing I am looking forward to. The park by my house has everything there, ice skating, track, etc. But since the snow storm, it's covered with snow but they paved a way around the track so people can still excersise.
I have no idea how to count calories anyway, so I'm gonna have to go online to learn how to do that
