I have just started to daily walk to work, which i added an extra hour and 10 mins worth of exercise on top of my hourly stroll at lunch. I am into my 4th week and eagerly looking forward to the changes in my body.
What I would like to know, when should I start to see the changes, I am giving myself 2 months will that be sufficant?
Also I am looking for maximum inch loss around my stomach as I am a natural apple shape, short torso, and I know walking is suppose to be very good for removing fat around that area. I am also trying to reduce the amount of sugar in my diet, cooking from scratch to improve my diet ( any interesting reciepies????). What else should I be doing.
A little background about me,
I am 42 nearly 43, size 16 dress size, 5ft 4 ( i dont weight myself!!). Afro caribbean decent. Had an hysterectomy about 4 years ago, but very healthy beyond that.
I hope you have been measuring your hips as I reckon that is the first place it will show. I would think if you are doing all that walking and following a good diet that works for you, then in 2 months there should be some difference in the inches.
Good luck to you though, you sound totally up for it!
Unfortunately I did not take any measurements, but I have a selection of trousers that would tell me if I had any changes on my hips! It is a shame cause it is not my hips that bother me...it is my waistline!!!
I started out with walking more, I became more toned and felt loads better but also more hungry, so I didn't actually drop any weight until I started counting calories and making a deliberate effort to eat more protein.
Thanks for that, I will be aware, at the moment, my day diet is very good, but I do have problems with my weekend/evening diet, I have no willpower, I just eat! I will have to try and focus on upping my protien.
walking is a great form of exercise, i love it. you can do it anywhere, anytime without anybody knowing that you are doing it to lose weight. My favourite place to walk is the Malvern Hills and out in the country. You get to see some amazing scenery and wildlife.

Two thing, firstly I can totally empathise with the evening thing, I could quite happily go without breakfast and lunch and graze all evening after supper but you can stop the first few days are hard but it does get easier and then it becomes a habit.
Secondly, you do have willpower. The most fantastic thing about this site is all of the positivity that the American members bring to it, as Brits we tend to be quite down on ourselves and convinced that we will screw-up, so we might as well have a couple of biscuits now and not bother to put off the inevitable. They are all jumping up and down being convinced that they will be able to drop 20 stone and keep it off forever and their belief in themselves is what makes it happen.
I've lost over 7 stone with the help of this site; I'm no better, more disciplined or more full of willpower than you (actually I'm a miserable sod) I just convinced myself that I could stay on plan for a day, that day because a week and the week became 6 months. There have been difficult moments but overall it's hasn't been that hard; it can't have been because I can't do hard.
I have a different approach to evening eating as I keep quite late hours. As I have a points allowance per day with Weight Watchers, I allow myself enough points left over in the evening that I can afford to snack. I still try to eat sensibly though, not too much junk and little-and-often eating seems to suit me - not everyone is the same in that regard. Keeping track of your food intake, whether through calorie counting, WW point counting or something else, helps a lot.
I also think the regular exercise helps too, you feel more focused and in control as well as any health benefits it's bringing.
