What have you learned about yourself?

  • Weight loss is a journey and on every journey we all learn a little something. So what have you learned about yourself?

I learned I like Kale in place of cooked spinach. Just today I learned how much I love ballroom dancing.
  • So much! And each time I go down this road, even though I may give up, I always take away something positive that sticks.

I quit South Beach, but took away lots of nutritional knowledge about good carbs, fiber and low fat meats.

During that phase I learned that I loved fried cabbage and that it made a nice bed for all kinds of chicken dishes I normally served over pasta or rice.

    This time I've learned:

I like lentils. (Just discovered that tonight)

I learned I love quinoa. Didn't even know what that was.

I have learned that weighing daily is actually good for me and if I weigh daily no matter what, then it seems to me it will help me to never stick my head in the sand again. I can't imagine watching the scale go up and up and not do something about it. Always before, when I gave up the eating plan and the exercise, the scale went out the window too. But if I weigh daily, I don't think that will happen.
  • So far I've learned I am stronger than I think. I can beat this!

I've learned you don't have to give up everything you like to lose weight, but you have to be smart about how much you eat and if there is an alternative that is just as pleasing.

I've also learned that you don't have to have everything that's offered to you. You can always have some at some other time.

I've also learned to say "NO".
  • I have learned that I cannot go on a diet , reach goal and go back to my old eating habits.
  • I have learned that I didn't really know what it meant to "love myself." I am learning to do that. More and more.

Also, that I like baked/grilled/broiled fish more than I thought I did. Yum!
  • I learned that when I put on weight, I build walls and barriers. The more weight I gain the more aloof and detach I become. However, as the weight melts away, I'm more prone to opening myself up and more sociable.

Weight-loss for me is very therapeutic and emotional....
  • I've learned that I won't die, cry or faint if I don't eat calorie-dense foods.
I've learned that I feel better when I eat more veggies
I've learned that carrying food is easier than I thought it would be
I've learned that I'm actually a decent cook
