Hello everyone. Im new to this place, and one of the younger larger ladies. I am trying to get into shape once again. I am trying to find good exercise equipment for 300+ women without breaking the bank.
I have tried to start by simply just walking. but living in Louisiana... in the deep deep south of hot, humidity, and rain rain rain doesn't always make that an easy thing to do! and being that im a student my "me" time isnt until dark. and im just not too happy about walking about at night!
I would really like to try to get into shape at home since i live in a small town and our gym options are horrible. and very clicky, tried it once and only got stares. horrible experience. and made me feel like high school all over again!
im pretty much up for anything... good equipment, things that may have worked for you, plans, videos... anything you might have to share!
Do you want to do exercise videos? There is a huge variety of exercise videos. Walking away the pounds is pretty popular and The Biggest Loser collection generally shows you modifications for every exercise.
If you happen to have Netflix, you might be able to rent some of the DVDs to get a feel for them before you purchase. I also know some people who have cable mentioned that there are some exercise videos 'on demand'. If you have an 'on demand' type feature then you might be able to see if they have some exercise options.
Welcome Amanda,
I'm so glad you're here, this is an awesome place for support and encouragement. A few things-
1. Can you afford a Wii? I have one and it's wonderful, I can do it in my own home any time I want. I have Wii sports, Wii sports resort, Samba de Amigo, and All star cheer. I get a workout, it's fun and I sweat every time.
2. Don't forget to become part of our excercise thread. It works if you work it. It's a great way to become accountable and it's great to have something bigger than you to work towards.
3. Come here and come here often. Post, become involved. When you feel attached, you have more of a commitment to yourself. Don't be afraid to ask questions or reach out if you need a hand. That's what we are here for.
I hope to see you on the excercise thread and active in our 300+ community.
Take care

Do you have a school with a gym or basketball courts near you? The weather where I live has been really nasty lately, and before I broke my ankle, I was using the indoor volleyball courts on the bottom floor of my office building as a walking trail. Just a thought.
Hi Amanda, I see you only have 1 post 4 days ago. I hope you haven't given up. For your excercise equipment I have a few cheap plans. (I'm the queen and free and cheap...lol) Go to the hardware store and buy 8 foot, (longer or shorter depending on your arm length) of heavy cording/rope. Jump 100 times daily. Buy two gallons of water, and lift 100 times daily. Get a step stool, (or a real step works great) and step up and down 100 times per day. You don't have to do it all at once, and you can break it up into 4 or more intervals. Just do it every single day. Though I would highly suggest getting your eating plan completely in control before you start any excercise. I wouldn't even consider exercise until you have lost your first 25 pounds by diet alone...I think baby steps work best for us Chickie's in the 300 pound range. If you go full throttle into this, you'll probably get burned out. Hopefully you haven' burned yourself out already....
I've introduced more walking into my days as I am at the start of my journey and this is my first step towards a larger exercise goal. I have been taking my dogs on longer walks. If you have a dog, you will be doing both of you a favor and your dog will end up encouraging you to go for his walk as he gets used to the routine. Nothing like a furry task-master to keep you on track And if you don't have a dog, maybe a neighbor or friend would like their dog going out for 30 minutes a day.
Hi Amanda. I would suggest getting yourself a Leslie Sansone video. i got one for $9 at walmart. Its an in home walking program, and easy on the joints. good luck!
