Default Contraception, PCOS and weight.

I just wondered about anyone else thoughts, opinions and experiences.

I have PCOS and was put on the pill to control it. PCOS is linked to obesity and many pills including the one i was on are linked to weight gain, does this not seem to you like defeating one problem by causing another?

I am now on the implant, happy as larry, no periods at all and all the weight that i struggled to lose in my years battling with PCOS and the pill is falling off.

Silly doctors!

Just an implant related side note; has anyone realised how uncomfortable it is having a student nurse looking all interested over you while you have your minor op because she has 'never heard of this before!'

I actually attribute my weight loss partially from going on the pill. I think it helped me control my hormones/PCOS and I was able to finally lose weight without a huge struggle, still always a struggle though.

I think it depends on the pill you're on. I've taken Microestrgen FE for years and haven't had any issues with weight-gain. Normally i have greater success with weight-loss during the times I'm taking the pill.

That being said, i think you have the same situation: you found the right balance of hormones to help you lose the weight with the implant. Other people might have the same success with the pill, Depo, whatever. Its nice to have options...lol

I also have PCOS and was put on Microgestin FE about 9 months ago and haven't had any problems losing weight. The BC pills were a godsend TOM-wise. Best thing I've ever done!

I don't have PCOS so I hope this isn't too far OT.. haha
I had really bad periods in high school. Well, those were short but I would have to stay home a couple of days every month because my cramps were so bad I couldn't get out of bed. I would also go through terrible mood swings and feel really depressed during PMS. I went on Yaz when I was 17 and switched to Seasonal and then Seasonique a couple of years later. I loved not having my period but main I gained a ton of weight. without a change in diet or exercise (actually I increased my exercise...). I would try and try to lose weight but I would lose 5 pounds and then gain it back again. I got off the pill in December for the first time in 4 years.
I wish when I went on I lost weight...
Well, here's to hoping my horomones get normalized and I drop the weight I gained all those years ago.
