I leave for a semester abroad in a week (), and I'm very excited! However, when I'm abroad I want to make sure that I'm keeping to a healthy lifestyle and continue to lose weight, or at the very least maintain.
I was wondering if anyone has any advice for loosing weight in a new environment or have any advice or tips I'd find useful?
I have been abroad twice, the first time for 9months and the second time for a full year.
Weight loss is very difficult when you are abroad. I had some friends who actually gained weight even though they were eating normally and exercising. Apparantly, this is due to stress and the different kind of food. They lost it after just a few weeks back home just returning to their old ways.
There will be a lot of new food that is tempting and there might be completely different habits. In Spain, for instance, they rarely ever have breakfast. Lunchtime is at 2.00pm and if you get hungry before you have a cookie. So if you're used to have a big breakfast, you might find yourself having a big breakfast and then sharing a real real big lunch with your friends(who didn't have anything yet).
If I were you, I would plan on maintaining. Like that, you can enjoy your stay without thinking too much about dieting. Living abroad for a while is so great and enriching and you shouldn't miss out on anything. I don't mean you should pig out, just don't be too strict.
