  • Hi Ladies,

I'm getting married in early Sept this year (waaaaahoooooo!!!), I'm determined to drop from my current weight of 149 to 125. I started at 199 and got down to 131 but I obviously fell off the track, I wasn't consistent with my workouts and I was binge eating. Not only do I want to get in shape for my wedding but I want to be healthier and feel better about myself as a whole. I find that when I stray from this forum that's when I fail so I plan to log in daily. I'm going to order my wedding dress in about two and a half months and I plan to buy it in a size smaller......then have any alterations done closer to my wedding date. I have attached a picture of the dress I will probably get but I'm not 100% sure yet- this pic was taken at the end of last summer when I started looking at dresses but I've gained a little weight back since then.. Anyone else using an upcoming wedding as added motivation? If so when is your wedding date and how much do you hope to loose- what's your story? Feel free to share any pictures of you in any dresses you have tried on.

  • That dress is beautiful - you look great in it!

My wedding is July 24th and I have about 30 pounds more to go. I'm hoping to hit that in May or June so that I have time to get the necessary alterations done. I haven't picked a dress yet, but my budget is pretty small, so it's probably going to be something off the rack or from a website that can be ordered to size and doesn't require six months lead time. I've done a little shopping yet, but I'd like to be a little smaller before I do too much more. The one time I went, the sample sizes kept getting stuck on my hips

Maybe this is crazy, but sometimes on the treadmill, I picture myself running towards a wedding dress

ETA - I totally just noticed that you're from MI. Where are you doing the wedding? All of me and DF's family are in MI, so we're having the wedding in Manchester. I spent so much time looking at wedding venues around there!
  • Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! How long have you been planning? Thank you for the compliment, I do love the dress I guess I'm just indecisive. Those dreaded samples sizes......dress shopping can really kick you in the gut and it's always hard to tell how the dress will truly look when it's too small. I actually already have a dress but since the purchase I have had dress remorse and decided to go for another- I'm currently trying to sell this one which I got on sale. What sort of style are you shooting for? I find the the mermaid style is great for girls who are not rail thin and have some thick curves, have you tried a mermaid dress on? Have you looked online at www.weddingbee.com or www.preownedweddingdresses.com for a used dress or sometimes girls like me have remorse and sell new dresses.....I'm not sure how much your budget is but you could look on those sites.

30 lbs in that time frame is totally doable. What are you doing to loose the weight? Are you having a large wedding? I laughed when you mentioned chasing down the dress while on the treadmill- I've even considered printing that picture of me in the dress and sitting it on the treadmill for motivation but I fear people might give me weird stares.

Oh, and to answer your question, we currently live 30 mins east of Detroit however, we are having the wedding in Colorado....actually, we are eloping but still making it nice, Fiance will wear a formal kilt outfit, me a wedding dress and still have hair and makeup done, we will be having a traditional Scottish handfasting ceremony (I was born and raised in Scotland and Fiance is of Scottish descent) we are getting married in Rocky Mountain National Park with a bagpiper playing and will still have professional photgraphy and making our honeymoon out of it too. Check out this site if you care: http://www.elopeincolorado.com/
  • Congrats, ladies! You look awesome in that dress. I have been engaged for about 3 years now (I was finishing school and he was between jobs so we never planned anything) and now we are aiming for next summer I have a LONG way to go but I am confident I can make it! My best friend and I are going to go dress shopping in a couple more weeks, hopefully I will be fully out of an 18 and into a 16/14. I love the 20s and the style of the time so I am hoping for a flapper-ish dress, hehe.
  • I've finally set our date for 11/11/2011. I have at least 130 # to lose but I think its very doable in that time frame. We are going to Vegas and will have some friends and family there. I have one dress already that was bought for the "fat" me. But I have really dedicated myself to not only losing weight but to getting, and staying, healthy. And when I do get closer to goal I will start trying on dresses. I know what I like but I have no idea what will look good. I watch " Say Yes to the Dress" and I see that there are so many kinds of dresses and not everybody looks good in all of them

Good luck on your wedding plans and weight loss!
  • I dont have much time to post but I am a bride to be!!!!

    I LOVE your dress...

I will be back on later to post. Great thread idea
  • Hi Ladies.......

Thousandsunny: Congrats to you! Oooooh, I love the sound of that dress. I like the vintage style. You could also do a vintage hairdo too (Google vintage hairstyles, there are so many beautiful looks!).

mulder1921: Congratulations on your engagement! Your right, that kinda of loss is doable in that time with some hard work. Just use the wedding as motivation and think how fab you will feel in your dress in a size you feel comfortable in.

Taylor86: Congrats and thank you for the lovely compliment! I look forward to your post.

Btw, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who's having a long engagement, we got engaged this last May, where I come from (Scotland) having a long engagement is normal but when I told people here in the U.S when we were getting married they were really surprised or maybe that's just my Fiances family?
  • Banana - We got engaged last October and I've been planning since then. I went dress shopping once, but I still don't have a good idea of what kind of style I want - big, small, mermaid, a-line, etc. The wedding's going to be outside - this is the park - so I don't want anything too big or formal.

We're starting to get down to a lot of the little details right now - choosing a DJ, designing invitations, etc. So much to do! I'm kind of jealous of your eloping The pics on that website are so beautiful!!! What a cool idea

As for the weight, I'm training for a triathlon, so I go to the gym before work most days to either bike or run. Plus, I'm a dancer, so I usually take between 1-4 hours of class a week. For me, the eating is much more of a struggle, so I'm working on making healthier choices - no specific plan, just focusing on eating more fruits/veggies, eating smaller portions, etc. I've been on a plateau of 178 for about a month now, but I'm buckling down and getting more serious since the wedding is coming up!
  • Hey ladies, I'm also a bride to be! We set our date as December 3, 2010. I've been a lazy lazy bum and sidetracked with the healthy lifestyle, but I think this is enough motivation to start up again!
I'm about 155 lbs now, eep! And hope to lose about 20-30lbs.
  • I am a bride to be too! But my wedding isn't for a while. I just graduated college and am still looking for a job and my fiancé and I are building a house right now so we decided to get married sometime in 2011. That said, I thought it would be neat to get married on my dad's birthday, September 10 (he passed away when I was 8). It's a very special day, it happens to fall on a Saturday in 2011, and our anniversary is gonna be 9-10-11! Lol I know it's corny but I'm so excited!

My fiancé and I are both trying to lose weight right now, but I hope to be at goal weight long before our wedding, maybe September of this year? We'll see!

Banana, that dress looks gorgeous on you! I adore mermaid style dresses, but my hips are way too big for them .
  • Hey Ladies! I am also a bride-to-be! June 26th is the date so I believe that leaves me with 155 days to loose my last 10 lbs before I marry the love of my life!

I am so glad to find you girls for support along the way!
  • Congrats ladies! I am not a bride to be yet, but I'm planning my wedding anyway lol.

Banana- love the dress--you look gorgeous!

Fashin- I think that is an incredible idea about getting married 9-10-11...how special!
  • That dress is amazingly beautiful!
  • hey yall!! well i am yet another bride to be...we are planning for October of 2010 has to be before deer season or after so i think i rather before!! I am just hoping that by then I will be at my goal weight which is a very reasonable amount of time to lose 60 pounds

    Banana: dress is gorgeous!!

  • Glad to see there are more Fiancees out there! Congrats all! Oh, and thanks so much for the wonderful compliments- I think that dress may be "the one".

@ Dixon- That's so funny that you said "has to be before deer season"! I went to a wedding in GA a couple of years back at the it was on the opening day of deer season and several women were there without their partners because they were all off deer hunting.

Have to run, at bookstore and laptop is about to die on me.....aaarrgg, will post more later.
