Talking newbie ready to kick it in high gear!!

Hello everyone! I have been following this forum for about 3 weeks. I have yet to introduce myself and wanted to make sure I was going to really stick with my weightloss plan this time before I posted.
My name's Nikki and I'm 24 years old. I work as a 911 dispatcher. I have noticed since starting this job 2 1/2 years ago, I have gained a lot of weight. I was never a skinny girl but I have recently realized just how big I have let myself become.
In December 2009 I decided to change the way I've been living my life. I have been diagnosed with low thyroid, which doesn't help my weight, as well as PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome). A friend of my parents told us about a protein drink he has been using and it's helped him to lose 16 inches in 6 weeks.
I ordered the protein drink and it came in the mail on 12/27/2009. The protein drink advertises that you can eat the same as you always have and still lose inches. You just stop eating 3 hours before bed, drink only water for that last 3 hours and then take 1 tbsp of this stuff right before you zonk out for the night. I was skepitical but was getting desperate. I have tried every diet out there and numerous diet pills as well. The protein drink came with a chart and measuring tape. You measure before you start the drink and then once a week after that.
My mom measured me the first time and I cried when I got home. I couldn't believe how high the numbers were. I started eating healthy, cut out soda and eating out. I try to eat mostly veggies, with plenty of fruit and protein, and small amounts of breads. I noticed a difference in the way I felt almost immediatly. I suddenly had energy!! I've continued eating healthy since I started this protein drink. The first week I lost 6 1/2 inches total off of my body, the second week I lost 6 inches, and yesterday when I measured I lost 4 inches...16 1/2 inches total in 3 weeks!! I don't see a tremendous loss any one place, but lose an inch here or there.
My biggest fall back is that I haven't been exercising enough. I am hoping to use this forum to keep me motivated in my daily habits, but also as a way to track and keep motivated for exercising.
I am a bridesmaid in my brothers wedding May 1st and I don't want to look like a sausage stuffed into a gorgeous dress!! I am going to set weekly exercise goals for myself and hopefully that will help the weight and inches come off, as well as just help me start feeling better!
Anyways, sorry this was so long!!
It's nice to read everyone's encouraging words on here!
Take care and good luck on your weightloss journey!!
Nikki

Hi Nikki!
Sounds like you're off to a great start and well on your way - I know you'll be a fabulous bridesmaid- the support you need is here - we'll be here to cheer you on..

Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated and inspired. Try the 20 somethings and the weight loss support forums, they're active and very helpful - also the Success stories are a definite must for motivation. Maybe the Dieting with Obstacles forum would be of interest to connect with others dealing with thyroid problems and PCOS.

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here since last fall, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of going off track or giving up. It has made all the difference in my success so far.

So welcome - you've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired!

All the best - good luck with your goals,
Lee
