Default Argh, gonna jump off the wagon!

I really mean jump, not fall. I am visiting my best friend for a week and it has always been a thing for me that you shouldn't be on a diet when staying with someone else cos its unfair on you host to expect them to change their meal plans to fit your diet. But if i give up my diet now i dunno if i'll ever get back on it and it's really important for me to lose this weight. My mum has put the idea in my head that if i don't lose it by the time i'm 25 i will never lose it.

First I just want to say that you can lose weight whenever you want, regardless of your age, as long you WANT to and put in the effort!!

Now to address your real question.... is it possible for you to do some of your own grocery shopping and cooking while you stay with your friend, so she doesn't have to alter her meal plans? I can see how some people may find it offensive for their guests to bring their own food but if she is your friend hopefully she will understand that you are trying to stay on a healthy eating plan.

Good luck to you!

Don't jump off!!!! Just get in the back seat for a week. Enjoy the week with your friend, and don't beat yourself up for not completely following your diet. But also try not to put yourself into a junk food coma! Just have a plan ready to get right back on track when you get home. You can do it!

What if you just count your calories while you are there? If you watch your portions and are mindful..paying attention to hunger and fullness signals (which is HARD I know!) you won't sabotage all of your hard work. You don't want to come back and have to start all over again, but at the same time want to enjoy your stay. Keep active, take walks together or alone even, and stay hydrated. You will do fine if you believe you can. You have already had success and know what it takes. Willpower is key...remember this IS a lifestyle. :-)

I agree. Try not to jump off that wagon. It will be so much harder to get back on it again after the week is up. And I don't know about you, but I put on weight far easier and quicker than I take it off. One week could do a lot of damage for me. My stomach would probably get used to my old way of eating again and it took my three hard weeks to get used to my current plan.

What is your current plan? Maybe we could help you modify it?

Just remember that this is a lifestyle change. If it's just a diet, then you have a greater possibility of regaining the weight you lost. With lifestyle changes situations will always arise that make you encounter unhealthy foods. Go there, see what she has to offer, you might be surprised. Otherwise tell her that you're trying to eat healthier and that why you aren't eating all of the food she's offering. If y'all go out to eat, get lower cal options, just keep on. You can do it!

If you can't control the meals that you are going to be served (I have the same problem when I visit my inlaws) you can still control other aspects of your diet. You can continue to drink water, get some exercise in each day, limit desserts, bring or buy some snack foods that fit your weight loss program like perhaps some fresh fruit. Sometimes what I do is offer to prepare a meal, or at least a side dish, so that there is something I feel more confident eating. Plus it's a nice way to help out the host. Good luck with your trip and enjoy the time you spend with your friend!

the last two days ive really been slipping off of the wagon.

i've been arguing with my parents and staying with my boyfriend for the last 2 days so i have been dumb and let the stress get to me. plus being with my boyfriend, the KING of junk foods, isnt helping. hes the sweetest boy on the planet, but his idea of making me feel better is taking me out somewhere nice. he knows im trying to lose weight but he just looks so darn cute and excited when he gets a little plan in his head i cant say no.

ive stll been good with cutting my portions in half, i always make sure i have at least half of what i ordered on the plate when im done (tht is of course, until my boyfriend alex gobbles it up. i swear that man eats his weight every day and doesnt gain a pound. i hate him haha) but half a plate of junk is still half a plate of junk.

im not sure how to get out of this funk!!

Ok had my lovely week away and i think i made up for the unhealthy eating by the amount of walking we did, we did three whole days of shopping and walked all over the place. Its the first time in ages i've really felt worn out and slept through the night. I was so tired by the end of the day i haven't slept so well in months.

Good for you for getting some good exercise, and for returning to your path after the visit! I have to disagree with your Mom, I think as long as you are alive, it's never too late to become healthier! I'm 48, and on my journey to becoming a healthier me!

i hate to say i took a pretty big fall off the wagon this weekend.

i just dropped my boyfriend off at the airport, he's going to england for 5 months. so yeah lets just say ive been pretty miserable all weekend, and every night someones been taking us out to going away dinners or having go ing away parties. lots of drinks and food, and because i overdid it on the spinning machine to the point where i could barely walking up and down stairs for the last three days, no gym.

i just dont know how im gonna stop being sad that he left and get myself back into eating right and exercising. help!

Erica sorry about your boyfriend leaving for such an extended time. That is difficult, however while he is gone spend this time setting your goals and working towards achieving them. He will be in for a surprise when he returns in 5 months!
