Default Falling off the wagon...Motivational thread?!

How many times do you think you've fallen off the wagon?

How long was your hiatus?

What Motivated you to get back on?

I'm off right now. I seem to fall off every 3 weeks or so for no particular reason. Boredom maybe? Stress? Pure laziness?
It usually takes me a good 2-7 days to get back on which usually leads up to a 5lb gain.
It seems to come off again pretty quickly but if I could just stick to anything I would make it to go so much faster!

I'm going to Hawaii for the first time in June as well as having my 10yr High School Reunion sometime this year.
I must get my butt into gear!

What helps you continue tracking w/o taking "breaks"?

I've started over a million times, it's been a LOT of trial and error for me on what does and does not work.

Sounds like whatever you are doing might be a bit too extreme so you aren't handling it well. I re-started south beach only to find myself not being able to deal with it and cheating. I finally was like I can't keep cheating so I just moved on to phase 2 and I'm actually doing well and not cheating- that 1 serving of carbs and one serving of fruit a day is helping me feel better AND I'm losing again

Thats a very good point! I'm always the all for nothing type even if I tell myself to only change a few things at a time...I tend to really throw myself into everything full force.
Thank you, its definitely something I'm going to work on!

I guess if I look at it your way, I fall off the wagon all the time but I get right back on the next meal or snack. I don't forbid myself anything so I just take it all in stride and not sweat it.

I've tried over and over again. I couldn't even count. It's fine, though, because right now I'm good and I'm really hardcore committed this time, more than ever before. I'm working on making this a life I can live instead of a modification so I can lose.

Last time I fell off the wagon, I was back up 20 pounds in 77 days. Basically, a quarter pound per day. Each day I figure out how long it will take for me to gain back what I've lost and post it as a reminder to myself that in just those few short weeks, all of my work can be ruined. I just have to get through today to prevent that from happening.

I started dieting back in March '09 and fell off the wagon in August '09. In those five months, I went from 163 to 148 (15lbs) but those first five pounds came off extremely quickly (within two weeks), so it feels more like I lost 10lbs.

It was very frustrating to only have lost 10lbs in that amount of time, when I was really on top of my dieting and wasn't cheating. I was stuck on 148 for a month or so before I got to the point of giving up.

I wish I knew exactly what I was doing wrong. I ate 1200 cal/day and didn't exercise. This time around, I'm eating a lot more than that, and exercising. I hope I don't hit the same wall...

I don't really know what motivated me to come back. I guess maybe, if I had stuck to it and continued losing at this rate... then I'd be down 20lbs by now? And that's a whole lot better than being up the 10lbs I originally lost! Though, I have to say what made me start again more than anything was my tummy.

I have quit more times than I can count. I have also had a LOT of success on calorie counting diets...and yes, I have been too strict with myself. I am usually motivated to get back into gear when I see pictures of myself, because that's when I see the weight. For me that is more powerful than the numbers on a scale. And I've learned over the years how to cheat a mirror (you know the drill...suck it in, favorable angles, etc.). But pictures...ugh.

So this time around, I'm going to try to eat better (that part hasn't started yet) and do a much more reasonable calorie reduction. BUT...because I am an extreme person, and I have to go overboard on something...I'm going to focus on fitness and try to walk 1000 miles in 2010!!! (There is a thread on here for that if you're interested!). I think by focusing on fitness, I'll have better long term results.

How many times do you think you've fallen off the wagon? Have lost track

How long was your hiatus? weeks or even months at a time

What Motivated you to get back on? fed up with feeling tired and sluggish. Fear of developing type 2 diabetes that runs rampant in my family. Also having started to feel effects like increase heartrate at rest when eating junk food and not exercising got my attention.
