  • The 3 stone you lost, does that mean you are currently 260 or are closer to 220 now?

Not trying to discourage you but I'd try to lose more before trying to get pregnant if you are still 260. A friend of mine was overweight and got pregnant even though her doctor told her she needed to lose weight. Her doctor then told her to start walking and try not to gain too much weight during her pregnancy. She didn't listen and gained 50 lbs while pregnant. When her daughter was born she had so many complications by the time she was 1 she had seven surgeries. Her doctor told her it was due to her high weight pregnancy (I think she topped 300 lbs at the end).

If your period is sporadic and you are trying to get pregnant you need to tell your doctor. You may have issues trying to get pregnant due to your weight, and having few periods might be a sign of PCOS (polycyst ovarian syndrome), which can make it harder to conceive and if so it's even MORE imperative you lose weight to conceive.

Here's a great link about what PCOS is:

  • I highly agree with beerab...try loosing some weight first so you can have a healthy pregnancy as well as a healthy baby. You're young so you have time....take 6 months at least and focus on weight, and who knows...it might happen then! But everything beerab said above I would listen to...very good advice she gave!
  • thanks for advice i started at 18.6 260lbs now 15.5 217lbs! i do know that my weight is still a big issue why i started the diet. I have been tested for pcos when i was younger think maybe 16 and i didnt have it, should i re test?? doc didnt re mention it.
Not to sound ungrateful, but i am lookin for advice from some1 who has been in my shoes. I have read stories on women who are much much larger than me, maybe even 8stone++ more! and had healthy pregnancies. Just merlery saying that i know i have alot more weight to go i just thought getting down to 15.5 would have made a difference.
  • I currently weight 255 and am pregnant. I was 211 when I got pg with my first one and have a totally healthy baby. Of course it's always better to lose weight first, but it's certainly not required. Everyone can tell you a horror story of someone that had complications and was overweight. I can tell you horror stories of skinny people with complications, too.

I haven't had problems getting pregnant, but I can imagine how hard it is. My Dr told me with my first one that it can easily take 12-18 months to get pregnant with your first especially if you've been on BC for a while. Stay patient and keep trying. I'd also definitely talk to your Dr about your desire to have a baby. They are a vast ocean of resources and knowledge and might have some ideas on your period being sporadic.

Good luck! I hope to hear a BFP from you soon!
  • thanks for the reply! its so good to hear a happy out come for you! im planning on waiting til ive been trying for 12 months so just under 3 to go and ill head to the doc hopefully i can shift some more pounds by then!! its very early days for me to get worried and my aunt took 2 years to concieve my cousin its just scary when it happens to you so just wanted a little boost lol

    thanks again
  • When you say you've been trying, are you using an ovulation predicting kit or are you taking you basal body temp? I would do that to make sure that, A. you are ovulating and B. that you are having sex at the right time of the month.

Your weight could be affecting your fertility, but it could be something else. It may not even be anything physically with you, but your partner. There are many small things that can contribute to problems conceiving and many of them are easily fixed.

DH and I are currently seeing a fertility specialist and now I know way more about fertility than what they teach you in school! It's somewhat amazing that anyone gets pregnant given how intricate the natural process is!

That being said, you are young and have time on your side. I would focus on becoming a healthier you and if nothing happens in the next few months then go see your doctor.

I hope you get your BFP soon!
  • could just be as simple as losing some weight to solve the problem. Even I couldn't get pregnant when I was over weight, which seemed silly because I was only 45 lbs over weight but for some reason it just wasn't happening. Not until I got down to 141 that I suddenly got pregnant when I just assumed I was going through the change.
I'd say focus on your health and try not to stress. Stress in some can prevent you from getting pregnant.
