Default I am sure you have heard this before!

Ive been reading different post on different websites and seeing a lot of post regarding over weight people. Many people actually feel that over weight people do not care about themselves or their bodies. Over weight people are looked down on because of their weight. I personally know that trying to lose weight and get healthier has been the hardest thing for me in life. And boy have I been through somethings. Im sure you can all relate. I just think that most people who've never experienced being over weight have no idea what its all about. Have you ever experienced this type of behavior from someone and if so how has your experience been?

I've heard it all the time "just don't eat so much..."

OOOHHHH OKKKAAYYY OMG THANK YOU! "Don't eat so much" I NEVER THOUGHT about that...

Seriously that's what bugs me... It's like uh yeah I KNOW... And overeating isn't the ONLY thing that got me to gain all this weight!

I just tend to stay away from people like that who don't know better- and if they persist I tell them go look up my medical condition and mind their own business.

People like easy, simple explanations because it makes them feel better. And if they haven't experienced it themselves, then of course they don't really know what it's like. But I don't consider that a free pass - it's ridiculous to be an adult and not realize that there are endless experiences in the world other than your own.

I have even read somewhere that when going on job interviews employers will even neglect you and write you off as being lazy. I guess nothing will amaze me inthis world today. And this came from a post I read coming from supervisors and managers

I work with a guy who hates my coworker because she is morbidly obese. Granted, she's been through a lot in her life...and she's not really helping herself at the moment (that was from talking to her) and I've always encouraged her to keep going and keep taking care of herself. Anyway, for some reason, the jerk coworker thinks I'm a friend and he constantly makes fat jokes about this girl and talks about how disgusting she is. And I'm overweight too! God it makes me so mad.

Default One experience

A guy I know who is pretty thin told me, as he was chastizing me about my weight gain, that its the same for being too thin as overweight, like you get the same kind of rejection, etc. for being too thin. I said not even close, and I don't believe that. I think this guy is kind of anorexic too.

I definitely believe "weightism" exists. Many of my overweight friends had a harder time finding jobs than my thinner friends.

There are times I want to deck the new beau, as he is continually stunned by how much fitter and healthier I am than him. He's a lifetime beanpole and has never dated a fat girl before. On one level it's been fun to suprise him, but as he's one that doesn't screen anything he says, he manages to say out loud every thought I've ever thought a skinny person was thinking when they met me.

when I was about 300 lbs and interviewing in San Francisco many moons ago, I got the most unbelievable comments from people. A temp agency employee asked me if I was there to apply for light industrial jobs. A marketing firm employee laughed in my face (was a looks/image centered place). In New York, I have very, very rarely experienced that kind of unprofessionalism. And it is unprofessional (not to mention immature and plain not smart -- an employer might be passing up a golden egg).

some professions are going to emphasize image/looks. I think confidence can go a long way in boosting how you appear to people too.

I had a friend that recently went on a job interview. She said the men during the interview completely discounted her despite her education and experience. All the women in the company were total eye candy from what she described. I think it happens WAY more than we can even imagine. They have statistically proven that the fatter you are, the less money you make as a woman--same goes for being shorter. Way crazy.

What I do notice is that when I'm at my heaviest, I'm invisible to the world. If I try to go into a clothing store, I can sense what they're thinking: what is she doing here? She won't buy anything....and maybe they're thinking a lot worse.

When I"m at goal (and even a bit now), I get noticed by the world. Suddenly, everyone is happy to see me! Suddenly, I'm fun to be with.

I know some of it has to do with my own projection of confidence and happiness, but for the most part, people are rude and judgmental when it comes to weight issues. So sad.

i have been a little protected due to a tomboy status...its kinda hard to call the fat chick lazy when you've managed to dent a steel toed boot. i shake it off and have my callouses and scars as my proof of my activity. i did trailwork eith some folks from westpoint, and the guys thought my work was too hard. just because im fat, it doen't mean i over-eat (i eat less than many of my thin friends) or lazy.

Much of the hurt I have over weight and what others think of me is self-projected. But when I hear my grandfather, aunts, uncles, cousins and even my much adored brother rag on other people about their weight...it hurts me. I feel it as much as if they had said the same words directed at me. They laugh about how lazy that person must be, of if they would only lift their arms over their heads a few times it would help the situation. And of course there's the old "eat less" magic.

the night after I posted about my job experiences, it struck me that one of the most famous, successful and wealthy women in this country is a large sized woman who constantly struggles with her weight: Oprah Winfrey. She's even used her struggle to promote herself. Guess that goes to show how you think and deal with it certainly makes a difference.
