Default Day 3 Struggle

I've always heard that the 3rd day of a diet plan is the hardest. Boy was mine. I was hungry all day, but I stayed OP and I made it.

I actually think it was caused by circumstances more than the diet. I got up and had to call UPS to find out how to have packages picked up. I never even had my cup of coffee until I had all that done and then I had a skimpy breakfast. No carbs at all for breakfast and very little protein. The result was that I never got really satisfied until late yesterday evening.

I read on Veronica Atkins website (thanks again Kim) which I found and read just in time, that it is very important to start out with a good breakfast of protein. I learned the hard way how true that statement is. I think it makes or breaks the success of the day. So you can be sure that I started my day off with a good breakfast this morning.

For those of us starting out on Induction, she also said something else that is really helpful to me. Can't remember exact words but it was this basically, don't give up if you mess up. Just make it a learning experience and move forward on plan. I am definitely making that a special thing for me to remember. From my research, I've learned that on Carbohydrate Addict's that if I can eat one Reward Meal which is eaten within a time frame of 1 hour and maintain (some people lose weight, I could years ago), then one slip up or mistake is not going to destroy everything as long as I continue OP. I just have to remember to STAY OP from that moment on. As she says, learn from it and move forward OP. This will stop those slips from becoming an excuse for a binge.

Day 4 is much better. Still having no really problems.

Have a good day!

Thank each of you for cheering me on. I had a great Atkins day today. I'm not having any of the reactions I had when I tried this years ago. In fact, for being on Day 4 of Induction, I feel great. I think I'm missing a lot of those flu like feelings because I was already doing a form of low carb. This is really so much easier and I probably will stay on Induction when the 2 weeks is up. Although, I have to say I only miss the nuts I used to eat and may try to add a few since Dr. Atkins seemed to allow it. I'll try it and see if it keeps me from losing. But that is a way off so no reason to think about it now.

Hi Trish.

I've stayed on Atkins induction since I began months ago EXCEPT for the addition of some nuts (in moderation, of course). When checking, almonds and macadamias seemed to be two of the lowest net carb types of nuts....and I prefer almonds over macadamias myself.

I have always not been much of a breakfast eater, unfortunately....and have been one of those who considers breakfast to be 2 big mugs of coffee. MUST have my coffee in the morning. In fact, except for the coffee....I almost feel kinda nauseated, as I SO do not have an appetite in the morning. SO...knowing I should be eating SOMEthing....I now eat a handful of almonds every morning. I know it's not the protein item I should be eating....but at least it's something.

I've had absolutely NO problem adding the nuts...in terms of weight loss and ketosis. I use the ketostix to determine if new items may work or not. In fact...Emerald nuts makes these cocoa-powdered almonds that are really delicious and almost like a dessert. They had ONE item that I wasn't really sure of....potato starch....but there must be only a trace of it, as these did not at all affect my ketosis or weight-loss....and they are a nice sweet treat.

I plan to add fruits back in when I reach goal/maintenance stage. That's how I maintained for years back in the 90's.

Deena

I make these for DBF....in fact I made them for him for Christmas. He loves them! I used Hershey's Special Dark powdered cocoa since he loves dark chocolate but, I've made them with regular cocoa as well. I personally try to stay away from nuts because I have a portion control problem
