Default A little help and advice needed please!

Hiiiii everyone.

Having tried diets for many years, probably half of my life (how scary is that) including, Atkins,Cabbage soup, slimfast and many others..I have now taken the step to do it properly.

Im just wondering whats worked best for you all?
Im thinking of going to slimming world or just going down the road of healthy eating and excercise and doing it my own way.

Plus is it a good idea to buy a garment in the size i want to be and use it as motivation?

tips and advice greaatly needed...

Alicia

I bought a garment in the next size smaller, not in the size I wanted to be. That way, when I finally did squeeze into it, it was extremely motivating for me to keep going towards my ultimate goals. Good luck!

Welcome! I have clothes in more sizes that I care to admit up and down the spectrum. I try not to buy too many things as I'm dropping that are well ahead of where I am, mostly because I'm afraid that won't fit right once I get there...

Not at all! Getting ready for the first step is actually a very noble thing to do. (At least, that's what I keep telling myself.)

I guess we both can look at losing weight together, since I'm just starting myself!

Just a step at time is the way to go! That's all I've been doing. Some people think it's counterproductive to buy a smaller size, but I found it incredibly motivational in the beginning.

I don't think so (being nervous, I mean). and excited. it is exciting. nice to see you here.

I didn't go out and buy a smaller size as a goal, but I do think fitting into smaller sizes is a huge motivation for me. it brings home that feeling of success

i got smaller sizes ,that I used to fit into, in my closet. They are a huge motivation to me, because...I don't trust newly bought things..to check my progress. I trust what I know I could wear before, and then couldn't wear..and through hard work and sacrifice, now can wear again.

I try not to go down more than 1 size or so as well because as you lose your body shape can change so what style works may not work later. Like when I am heavy I am curvier, but I have a low ribcage so my waist never really shrinks. I have a 29 inch waist at 155 and 33% body fat, I had a 27 1/2 inch waist at 125 and 20% body fat. But my hips & thighs really shrink. So the same style doesnt work at all. I need a lower rise when I am thin or it totally bags on my hips and butt.

I had a whole basement full of 16s from the last time I lost weight when I started this...I was a size 32, too large to shop at Lane Bryant. Now all those old 16s are too big! I think small clothing is EXTREMELY motivating.

Just wanted to reply as to what is working/has worked for me thus far......

It's calorie counting, eating a lower fat and higher fiber diet. Eating 3 meals a day with 2-3 snacks to keep me from starving. It's exercising also, which for me has been walking (about 4 miles or 1 hour a few times a week) and using my elliptical machine. It's finding ways to adapt recipes to make them heathier, and more importantly eating foods that I enjoy but that are still healthy. And it's been me, making up my mind that I've had enough of living my life fat. I've had enough of feeling bad about myself, having nothing to wear, or just being the fat girl. I've had enough, and I can do something about it, so I am. Once I decided this, everything kinda clicked for me.

Good luck in your weight loss journey!!!!!!!
