It depends. There is not much difference between wheat and white if the wheat is not whole grain. However whole grain makes a big difference. It is like saturated and unsaturated fat. Non whole grain products are really becoming a hot topic of Americans eating way too much of them. Whole grain products, however, are suppose to be good for you. There is some info on this in diet plans board under an interesting web site from the harvard school of public health that I started.
Appearently there are some guidelines to being able to label a product whole grain. Also I get this product in Texas that is whole grain AND sugar free. Most breads they add sugar to. This bread tastes fine to me and has many fewer calories then breads with sugar, I think it is 50 or 40 calories per slice. So buy whole grain and try and see if you can find a whole grain bread without sugar and see if you find the taste ok for you. If you don't like it you are out a buck or 2, small price to pay.
