Default Something strange happened

I had the H1N1 flu shot last Thursday and something strange happened. I've had absolutely no appetite since. None. If I don't force myself to eat, I forget becuase I'm just not hungry. Strange huh?? Anyone else had this happen?

That is weird I didn't have any reaction or side effect from the shot and I got it probably two weeks ago.

oh boy, if that's the side effect, then sign me up for the next shot!

I'm just kidding!!

Seriously though, call the clinic you got the shot from and report it. They are looking for any side effects, no matter how strange. They will report it to the CDC and FDA so they can keep track to make sure nothing happens like the 1970 vaccines.

that's really interesting... i hope they don't try to dissect it and make another magical 'you no eat' pill :/.

as long as you don't end up sick, (whether from H1N1 or from lack of food, haha) i'd say it's worth it .

and for the record, i can't imagine that feeling. I have friends who say "i forgot to eat today... maybe i should do that"... and it leaves me flabbergasted. I guess always thinking about food is a nasty side effect of being a food addict.

The way the body reacts to different chemicals put into it varies. I was prescribed a blood pressure pill named Clonodine; for the entire time I took it I could only eat very moderate amounts of anything. I would eat a litte then any desire for food would cut off completely. No nausea or anything like that. I usually override just being full, but this was as if my brain said to me "you have absolutely no desire for any more food." My son was shocked when I told him he could have the rest of the sweet and sour prawns on one occasion. ha.

I'm still taking another BP pill and it actually does ****** my appetite. When I take it before I go to bed I can't eat until early afternoon.

Wow, that's odd. I haven't had the shot, and I don't plan on getting it. (got nasty sick one year after getting a flu shot) but that's a strange reaction to a vaccine. I'd definitely report it as was stated above, though I'm sure it's nothing to be worried about.

I agree with what Suzeeque said. Everybody reacts differently. A couple of years ago I was put on Topamax for migraines and my neurologist told me that as an added side effect I would lose weight. And he was right. I lost about seventeen pounds without really trying, but the weirdest thing was that I lost all desire to binge. I would walk into the convenience store planning to buy a binge food and nothing would appeal....

I got curious, and so I looked up Topamax, and it was then that I found out that Topamax has been used as a treatment for binge eating disorder.

Unfortunately for me, the other side effects of the drug weren't worth it, it did not help with my migraines, and the non-binge effect only last for a couple of months and then I guess I learned to override it...

But, it was nice while it lasted.

My husband went from Topamax for cluster headaches which did affect his weight only because he would forget to eat (and forget everything else for that matter). He then switched to a Prednisone (sp?) taper and gained 25 lbs in 2 weeks.

Interesting side effects to the flu shot though. I've never had a flu shot in my life so I can't even speculate whether this would happen to me. I say go with it unless it persists for several weeks or other symptoms appear.

Ummm.....what happened with the 1970 vaccines????

I did not want to get the shot but I work with immune compromised people and my company made a policy that becauase H1N1 is classified as a pandemic, Anyone working with people at risk MUST be vaccinated. It is my right of course to refuse to get the shot but that would mean that I would be suspended without pay until the end of flu season....March! Yikes, like yeah, I am a slave to my mortgage, I didn't really have a choice.

Yeh, I hear Canada is taking a more hardcore approach to having the flu shot. But, New york tried this with medical personnel, and you know how Americans are..they had to rescind that requirement.
