Default water question

Have any of you found that as you get healthier your body wants and needs more water? When I first started my get healthy journey and started tracking my ounces I was making myself have at least 64 and I was making constant trips to the bathroom and I was never thirsty, I was definitely hydrated. **TMI** I was peeing completely clear. As I go on though I find myself thirstier and it is taking more and more to keep me at the well hydrated level. Even with drinking more I'm not showing as much of the signs of being so well hydrated - I am thirsty, I'm not peeing clear. I'm also making less trips to the bathroom than before even though I'm drinking more. Still more trips than I'd like sometimes, but less. The increase had been very gradual for a while now, but there has been a very sharp increase this last week. I have had nearly 100 oz every day just in water and crystal light - that's not counting my V8, milk, occasional coffee, and 1 12oz. diet soda most days. I know that excessive thirst is a sign of diabetes, I don't need that warning. I am diabetic, but my numbers are currently excellent, so that is not the cause. Has this happened to anyone else?

I haven't seen that happening but I don't consume nearly as much just water as I should! I have been working on that though!

Fitgirlygirl,

I read once somewhere that when you first start drinking all the water, your body won't know what to do with it, so it just passes it through. But if you keep up with the water regimen, your body gradually "remembers" to use the water more efficiently -- as it always should have. This is what accounts for the constant running to the loo when we first start with water and why, gradually, it gets used by the body. Makes sense to me.

Still, given your concerns re diabetes, it wouldn't hurt to see your doc and rule out that as a cause -- excellent numbers notwithstanding. Then you could really relax about and enjoy the better use of water by your bod.

This was exactly my experience. I aim to pee almost clear (per doc's recommendation) and the amount needed for that changed as my habits changed. Exercise was a BIG part of this (I SWEAT when I work out, which obviously impacts my water needs).

I drink about 80+ ounces of water per day and I am always peeing. EVen though I have been drinking this much for two years the peeing never slowed down. I go every 1-2 hours at least, and in the night I wake up every 2-3 hours, which sucks. I wish it would slow down but so far it hasnt.

I would wonder about the sudden increase though. Not sure why that would happen.

I drink a lot less now that I eat less. I used to be constantly thirsty and now not so much.

I drink lots of water and have not noticed an increased need for it... of course I use like 3 Tablespoons of nutritional yeast PER DAY so my pee is always bright yellow with vitamin B lol!

I definitely don't get nearly enough water! I probably get 2-3 glasses. and I usually have a couple cups of coffee and the occasional glass of wine in the evening! I've thought about sprucing up my water with crystal light since that def. helps- much better tasting than plain water! hopefully that'll get me closer to the goal of 8glasses a day which I almost never reach!

I agree completely! I definitely need more water now than before. That's really interesting about your body not knowing how to process it at first. It does make sense. I did experience lots of peeing, and now less peeing. Thank God that didn't stick! It really is an interruption in life.
