I stumbled upon this site a couple of days ago and saw it to be a great source of motivation so I thought I'd give it a try! I am a 20 year old college student who has gotten out of shape. I've been active and athletic my whole life, but I would say that I am an emotional eater. I have been resorting to that much too often lately to deal with stress. So I'm basically looking for a way to overcome this issue and make some overall life changes! If anyone is in a similar situation or has advice please let me know!
Hey! We sound a lot alike. I am a graduate student (22 years old). I actually lost weight before, about 35 pounds, following a low calorie diet. Over time, especially since starting grad school, it's crept up about 10 pounds. I am looking for a diet buddy. I would say my main problem is night-snacking. Would you like to team up?
Hi dreamer11!
I'm sure that many can relate to the emotional eating but it sounds like you're ready to get started - good luck with your goals!
Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated, inspired and entertained! You'll also find info and first hand advice on different plans to help choose the one that's right for you.
There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.
I've only been here a short time myself, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of cheating or giving up.
So welcome - you've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired!
Hey dreamer11, I tried to send you a PM but they wouldn't let me because you have to have at least 10 posts first. Here is what I wrote:
Hey,
Great! I'm not sure exactly how this works, but I know people do better for themselves when they are checking in with a buddy about their progress. I guess we could kind of share stats and the way we are approaching our goals... My goals are probably a little different than yours. I exercise just about every day, but all the snacking and late study nights have made me gain a lot of weight. So now I am 165 and aiming for 130. Last time I lost weight, I ate 1200 calories a day, so this is my plan for this time as well + keeping in shape. We can decide how to keep in touch more, etc. How are things with you? What are your goals and plans? Oh, and I just (as in this week) began doing morning yoga, do you do any yoga? Thanks, hope to hear from you soon!
I'm not sure how this whole thing works either but we can just figure it our as we go along! The late night snacking has definitely caught up with me too because now I'm not as in shape as I used to be. I play a sport in college but it doesn't quite give me all of the exercise I need so I'm going to try to go running maybe 3 or 4 times a week in addition to practice/lifting. I don't have a scale (i should probably get one!) but my goal is to lose maybe 10 or more pounds, just to the point where I feel healthy and comfortable. It's also hard for me to keep track of calories since I eat at the cafeteria, but I'm going to shoot to make healthier choices. I don't do yoga regularly, but I have done it before and it's very relaxing!
I like to go running on the treadmill. Also, I think the 30-day Shred by Jillian Michaels is great for toning. Are you writing down what you eat? I understand that journaling is supposed to be helpful. I have never done that before, but I think I will try this time around.
I am Mari Ann Lisenbe a yoga instructor and love discovering things about how to loose fat and finally I have created useful guides that everyone can look for free at my site below.
OK, dreamer. Well, the late night snacking got to me again, but not as bad because I knew I would be reporting to you. I ended up with 1800 calories for the day, could be worse (could be better...). I am going to try super hard to hit 1200 tomorrow. We'll see. At least I made it to the gym today. How are things going with you?
Hey I haven't been fairing too well this week either. I think that time of the month is coming up soon haha so i haven't been eating too well. I don't know I'm just having real trouble getting started eek! I'm going to shoot to do better tomorrow. Is your pm working so we can just do that?
