Default Enough is enough

I'm new today, but certainly not new to dieting. I've tried virtually every diet out there, from the age of 12 on. Looking back, of course, there was nothing wrong with my body at the age of 12, but societal norms and middle-school teasing started me on the yo-yo diet train.

I've been "chubby" all of my life, and obese for most of my adult life, save the time or two when I managed to lose weight...only to gain it back.

And so here I am, 51 years old with cranky knees, pre-diabetic, and feeling like I don't know who that person in the mirror is. I work with young and vibrant people, and am feeling like the Old Fat Broad.

Enough is enough. I have started South Beach today, and Will Do This.

I'm glad to have a place where I can share this with people who truly "get" it.

Welcome! You can definitely do this and I am on South Beach and loving it! I started calorie counting but got stuck after like 15 lbs...

If you are pre-diabetic would your doctor consider putting you on metformin? In addition to helping you overcome your insulin resistance it can also help with weight loss

Hi mbsam!
I certainly can relate to your story - sounds like you're ready to go and determined in meeting your goal!

Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated, inspired and entertained!

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here a short time myself, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of cheating or giving up.

So welcome - you 've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired!
