So I absolutely love shoes. 3 or more inches I would love to wear... BUT I am so afraid of breaking the heel. I am about 5'5 and 275 pounds. I see other women wearing heels that are overweight and always ask myself are they are scared? Also, do any you out there wear heels on a regular basis? Do you find them very uncomfortable, like I do most? I would wear them so much more often if I didnt feel so scared to break them as well as so uncomfortable..
any tips, pointers, words of encouragement? ladies .. and not the grandma thick heels... lol
Hey! I have quite a few pairs of hot n' sexy heels....but sadly I never wear them anymore. I worked at a bank for a few years and I only survived because I got to sit down most of the day. I did notice the more I wore them the more my feet got use to them. I was never affraid of breakin the heels though....I didnt really think about it.
A trick I learned was switching out my shoes. I would keep an extra pair of heels under my desk and when my feet started killing me I would switch heels and it got me through quite a few days.
High heels are a scary proposition for many of us! I bought some with a 3 1/2 heel the other day and tried them on. I was totally terrified that I would slip and break the heel off due to my inability to balance myself on them. But I survived and the shoes made it without issue.
I would advise you to practice before you go out in them. This will give you the confidence you'll need in those shoes. I have to wear mine out in public tonite so I am gonna take them along with me today and walk through the middle school that I drive for in them. I am doing this just to make sure that I can navigate the polished floors while I have a friend with me. And nobody that is related to me will see, LOL
I actually had the same fear. I used to wear heels every day, back when I was 175 lbs, but as I got heavier I got more and more afraid that I'd fall and break my neck. I have noticed that as I've lost weight, its easier for me to walk in them again.
I agree with Tamil - just practice before you go out
I never really was scared about breaking the heel, but because I'm overweight heels have always killed my feet. I also have wide feet and high arches, so that might have a lot to do with it as well. My roommate who had the gastric bypass never wore heels but when she got down to 160, she started wearing them all the time and absolutely loves them, they don't hurt her feet at all. I have hope that when I get down to 160 I can wear a good pair of heels! But I agree with the above, practice walking in them and get comfortable before going out in them. Good luck!!
I used to love heels. When I was managing retail, I would even wear killer heels to my 11 hour shifts. Since I gained weight, I got more and more nervous about wearing them. I am uneven and unsure on my feet now. I am not limber. More than being afraid of breaking the heels, I am terrified of either falling or breaking my ankle. It's a lot of weight to be supported bya little ankle.
I am about 200 now, I have never broken a heel in my entire life. I think for the most part they are much sturdier shoes than we give them credit for. However being this over weight and wearing heels hurts my feet so I don't have any nice shoes now. I can't wait to wear them again!
I know exactly what you mean! I LOVE heels and cute shoes and always want to wear them...but I buy them and wear them for 10 minutes and then I'm in so much pain that I can't even walk anymore...
I bought that exact pair of heels on clearance at Charlotte Russe or however you spell it about two years ago for like $7...I haven't ever worn them. I WOULD LOVE to lose enough weight to be able to wear them in public and NOT feel like I was gonna fall flat on my face or like I wanted to cut my feet off because of the pain...haha
My advice in heels would be to try on lots and lots of pairs. Heels don't have to hurt. It's all about if they're made well. Unfortunately, it's usually the expensive ones that are the most comfortable. Sometimes you can get lucky.
If you're worried about weight on the heel, how about trying a wedge?
I wear heels a fair amount. Not daily because of an injury, but several times a month at least.
Look for a wider heel; there are a lot of there that aren't "grandma". Don't try a stiletto for a while. In addition, if you're looking at a higher heel, try and find one that has a slight platform on the front. This helps with the height issue. And I wouldn't start with something super-strappy.
And finally, wear them some place you feel safe to break them in. Do housework in heels, practice walking around one day when you're just home.
Thanks for everyone response... a couple of friends told me to practice @ home in them..so I will definitely try that. I hope when I lose weight some of that pain will go away.. it sucks!!!
