Default +5 pounds in 6 days?!??!

*I mean 6 days...lol.*

Hi ladies,

So I am really frustrated because I really, truly have NO IDEA why I have gained 5 pounds in the past 6 days. The first 2 days I gained 2 pounds, which I attributed to lack of sleep because whenever I don't sleep, I don't lose weight and often gain weight. However, over the weekend I slept a great deal and my weight did not go back down.

I haven't been dieting, but I'm usually a binge eater and I have been eating much less than ordinary in that sense. I haven't had any extremely salty days and I have been staying well hydrated. I haven't done ANYTHING different to start gaining these obscene amounts of weight. Plus now I'm at my highest weight ever, which is really scary and frustrating and I'm honestly very close to breaking down.

Could it be my scale? It flashed that the battery needed to be changed once and I ignored that and it never showed up again. However, I have to be sure because I really can't afford to get a new scale if I don't really need one, but I'm willing to sacrifice a Halloween costume to do so

I'm not on or near my period, and I've NEVER had my weight bounce up so quickly in my life...I'm really anxious and scared.

Change the battery on your scale and try again first of all.

have you just started trying to lose weight or exercise? you could be retaining water. Have you made sure you are weighing in at the same time each day?

What's your sodium intake like? It may be water retention... or a faulty scale.

Either way, please don't let this discourage you!

Have you started exercising or weight training? How many processed foods are you taking in? How much water? How much fiber?

My weight fluctuates at my cycle and at my ovulation.

I always weigh in at the same time every morning, after peeing and waking up. I haven't being eating any differently than I normally do, and I actually started to exercise again. I don't think this is water retention...normally if I am retaining water it'll go away after a day or two of drinking a lot of water and avoiding salt, which I did this weekend.I guess the main thing that bothers me is I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary, and I was actually trying to get back on track, and now this is really discouraging. But I'll try to watch my sodium very carefully over the next few days and drink more water and see what happens. I might not weigh in for a few days because the past few mornings have been pretty traumatizing.

I constantly gain like 10 lbs. in like 5-6 days. It drives me nuts. Then a day later it will magically disappear. That's why I hate weighing myself.

What you have to remember is that the number that appears on the scale isn't always going to be accurate. Everyone that has posted so far has confirmed that already... it could be TOM, water retention - exercise or sodium intake can affect your water retention as well as random anomalies experienced when you weigh yourself as often as everyday.

If you know you are doing the right things and making the right choices the scale will ultimately follow, don't let this anomaly set you back or give you an excuse to give up. This time next week everything will be back on track.

I'm sure you're thinking but it's '5 whole lbs!' - let me put it into context for you... have you ever had a really crappy week, not exercised, not consumed enough water and eaten all the wrong things, but you don't put on any weight? Heck, sometimes the scale says you've dropped a lb? This is exactly the same thing... the scale is not going to be consistent.

Don't let it worry you too much, keep making the right choices, keep exercising and drinking water and the scale will follow (not to mention all the othe rewards for being healthy and fit)

This is pretty much echoing everyone above, but the moral of the story is that the number on the scale does not reflect everything. Your body can be changing - getting leaner, healthier - all the while, with the number on the scale not budging at all (or in your case, fluctuating). If you're doing what you're supposed to be doing - eating less calories and healthy foods, getting cardio and resistance training, and drinking plenty of water - then you WILL lose weight. You just might not see it on the scale immediately. Don't let it get you down...it will show up on the scale eventually. In the meantime, try to limit yourself to only weighing once a week so that it doesn't stress you out as much (which will also prevent normal weight loss).

Good luck, and stay positive!! You'll get there!
