Default Does Hi Everyone-Anyone Remember the Book Calorie Queens?

It came out a few years ago.

I love that book.

I am going back to the only thing that ever really worked for me - counting calories - not all the fad diets I've been running through these past 10 years - and just getting fatter. Too bad I just didn't stick to the theme in that book: counting calories.

Well, better late than never. I feel good that I am starting over before the new year. Hopefully by January 1st I will have lost a few pounds.

Looking through this forum I'm glad to see there are a lot others who have come back to the simplicity of just tracking calories as well.

I am using a method called calorie points, but it's nothing like Weight Watchers points. No way I could look up calories, fat and fiber all day long and convert them into points. This method is just a simple conversion of calories into points. Period.

Well, glad to have found you all!

Yes , I remember Calorie Queens, I never followed their method because I was almost at goal before I learned of it or I might have tried it, I think it makes a lot of sense, basically you consume maintenance calories. If , for example my goal weight is 115 my maintenace calories would be 1380. If I had started at that and kept to it I would have reached my goal weight. I don't want to regain so I can try it, though. There are some 3FC members who are doing variations of this and are very succesful.

I do calorie points too. My dietician taught me and it's SO much easier! 75 calories is 1 point. I can have 13-16 points per day.

bargoo, yes, that's it. I am counting maintenance calories and love it. I can live this way for life. I don't even care if I lose very slowly. There is minimal deprivation this way.

Ann, you are the first person I've met who is also counting calorie points! Everyone knows about Weight Watchers points, but folks are clueless about calorie points. I simply love this method. I am curious, did your dietician give you any books/booklets on the subject? I had a good one years ago, but now just rely on a calorie point conversion chart I have.

I did find a place on the internet that specializes in dietetics and sells booklets on the calorie point method. It's so much easier isn't it?

Calorie points? Curious as to how that's easier than simply counting calories? Not being snarky, I'm genuinely curious.

I did the math for this calorie queens technique and apparently it's already what I am doing! LOL

Which must prove that it works. I am sorry I didn't start out that way. I did what a lot of us do , lowered calories until I hit goal and then had to find a point where I would maintain and not regain . Sounds so much easier the other way.

My dietician did give me a book to get started. It was one she developed and I've loaned it out several times! It is so easy. I'm so glad to just see the calorie counts on a food and know quickly how many points it and only have to count up 13-16 points per day rather than adding each and every calorie!

Heater, I find calorie points to be easier than counting calories. If you are familiar with weight watchers point counting, you'll know that you have to look at the calories, fat and fiber, then use their slide to tell you how many points is in a food. With calorie points you just look at the calories in a food then convert it to points by looking at a simple conversion chart. I have mine xeroxed and shrunk and keep it taped to my food journal for easy reference.

Unlike Ann, I am eating my maintenance calories which is 1800 calories, so instead of adding up 1800 every day, I just count to 24, because with this system 24 calorie points equals 1800 calories.

Heater, to me this is an easier system, but if counting calories works for you, I say don't mess with a good thing. This to me is just a quicker way of counting. In Calorie Queens, they just plain ole' counted calories!

Ann, does your dietician sell her book to the general public? Because I might be interested in purchasing it.

Okay I see. Yeah I did WW points in the past and had good success. Lost 40 lbs, but life got in the way and I gained it all back a wedding and 2 babies later.
I love the idea that I am eating at my maintaining calories now. What I'm eating now is TOTALLY doable for life for me. I was getting worried that I was going to have to go way down from here when I got to my desired weight! I never thought to look at exactly what amount of calories it would take to maintain my ideal weight. Might need to take a look at that book.

tealover, I have moved out of state and lost touch with the dietician so I don't know if she does or not. I don't even use the book anymore. It's been so many years I just know what calories = what points. Plus, if I'm having a brain duh day, all I have to do is use a calculator: enter the calories and divide by 75 and that tells me the points equivalent. so easy!!

Ann, gosh, I never thought about the calculator! Talk about double duh! Even that is easier than calculating Weight Watchers points!

Heater, that's the whole premise of Calorie Queens - they call it Eucalorics - eating your maintenance calories now - eating the amount of calories your ideal weight calls for. I just love it. Since you're already doing it, you know it's unlike those horrid low calorie starvation diets!

I think you'd like the book. It's done with a great sense of humor.

QUESTION???
If you're eating your maintenence level calories now do you just stay at that number until you hit your goal weight and that's it or are you tweaking them as the weight comes off?

I'm very interested in hearing more about the Calorie Points. Is this something you can only learn from a dietitian? I tried Googling it, but had no luck.

Any help would be appreciated!

k-boogie, yeah, you stay at that level as you lose weight. Of course you tweak if you want, but I've had it with very low calorie diets that kept me starved all day.

Angel, 3 fat chicks won't let me post the link because my post count is less than 25. I just tried and that message popped up. But if you google clgerwick it will bring you to the website where I ordered my Calorie Point booklet.

Clara Gerwick Company has been around for ages and is very reputable. They are involved in menu planning for hospitals, convalescent homes, etc., so they're not slouches! I sent them a check, but I think you can call them and use a credit card.

On the home page there is a link to "publications." That will bring you to the order page and you want the booklet called "Calorie Points for Weight Control."

I hope this helps. I love this way of counting calories; it's honestly so much easier than the Weight Watchers points. I can't believe it's not more well-known. It's the best kept secret in dieting, in my opinion!
