Default Flipper

Does anyone else have a flipper (partial denture for a missing tooth)? I have had mine for about a month...and I absolutely hate it...but I lost a baby tooth and I dont have an adult tooth right in the front of my mouth so I look horrible without it... I'm curious if anyone has attempted to kiss with it in... I've met a new boy and I'm really not trying to embarass myself by taking my tooth out haha

This whole tooth thing really complicates my life

I happened to have one when I began dating my husband, and I had the same fears (even at 35). I was convinced that something would happen, and he'd be able to tell, especially during kissing.

I was really self-conscious, but it worked out fine. No weird kissing accidents or anything.

He did eventually find out. Or rather, I eventually had to tell him. We were eating and a small piece of food, like a seed from a berry or something got wedged between my gums and the flipper, and without thinking, I used my tongue to dislodge it, and it made a "clicking" sound. My (now) husband has super-human hearing it seems (I don't know that he hears that much better, but at the smallest of noises, he'll say "what's that?")

So he asked, and I admitted it. Of course, then he wanted to SEE it (Not like that wasn't even more mortifying).

He found it funny and "cute," especially because I was so embarassed. Still, I'm so glad it happened after we had been together for a while, not on one of the first few dates.

What is a flipper? I had a crown put on my tooth when I was 8 yrs old...fell getting into my grandfather's pickup and cracked it. In under the crown is my original tooth. I had to have the crown replaced before I began dating my boyfriend..so I had the 'temporary' crown on when I met him. I felt like I had a chicklet for my tooth..and it wasn't as white as my teeth so I felt mortified. Thank god he didn't notice...guys are oblivious! My permanent crown is matching perfectly and looks like the real thing ( thanks to my wonderful dentist and the dental crafts lady who actually sat next to me and painted it with a pallette to match it exactly).

I have no idea what a flipper is however I am sure that once you've gotten to know him, hopefully you will feel comfortable telling him about it.

A flipper is like a retainer with a tooth on it... its an acrylic plate with the tooth attached and it just sits in the top of your mouth... I constantly play with mine though and take it out with my tounge... I just have horrible thoughts about it coming out while I'm making out or something

I had a retainer in high school, and I was always playing with that thing with my tongue too.

At 35, when I got the flipper (it was temporary until I could get a crown put in a few months later. I didn't have enough dental coverage left for the year to cover the crown, but had enough left for the cheaper temporary flipper). The plan was to replace the tooth with a crown after the next year's coveragae limit was available in January).

It was so much like a retainer, that I really had to put a lot of effort into NOT playing with it with my tongue, like I had the retainer in high school. I was working in a fairly prestigious corporate job at the time, and during meetings especially (because they were SOOO Boring it was hard not to have some type of nervous habit emerge, and also because it was going to be most noticeable if I did) all I could think about was NOT flipping my flipper.

I was born missing four adult teeth right in the front of my mouth. I have a flipper with two teeth for the top and my baby teeth are still in the bottom. I've already had braces, during which my top canine teeth were pushed forward and sculpted to mimic the small incisors that I lack. I need four implants in total, and my overall dental work will eventually cost somewhere around $26,000.

this is so weird!! I have a partial..or flipper as you're calling it!

I had an accident when I was about 20 and it knocked one of my top front teeth out...I was so mortified I didn't leave the house for a month!

I always wonder too, if it's noticeable, especially when kissing but I've never had anyone mention it, and the few people that know about it have told me they can never tell and usually forget I have it.
I'm actually on my 3rd one, this may be TMI but make SURE if you ever get sick to your stomach and you need to throw up you take it out first! I guess it's so much force that it knocked mine right into the toilet and I didn't notice it til it was too late! LOL! I can't believe I told ya'll that but really, those things are not cheap to have replaced so..just a little heads up.

My biggest thing, is I feel like I used to have a perfect smile (I even had braces for about a year) and when that happened it was ruined. That's not really the case but I want to have my teeth bleached BAD and..well, you kinda can't unless you wanna go get a new partial since they try to match by color.

I just got mine a month ago... I too had a perfect smile but it looks fine now as long as I leave it in... My problem is that I take it out a lot and I play with it with my tongue... My teeth are actually are as white as they can be...I thought that was so weird when the dentist said your teeth are as white as we go to make the fake tooth...Which is cool because I just brush my teeth...nothing special lol

And just a little update... after reading this yesterday I wasn't afraid to kiss the new boy and everything was PERFECT... I guess the flipper went unnoticed SO THANK YOU... I tried to find an answer by googling it yesterday but then I was like duh ask the CHICKIES bc they obviously know everything
