Default i bought a food scale

I finally got my food scale today (asked for it as a b-day present ) It's a digital one, which I read is what most of you use so hopefully it gets the job done.

I know, I know.. it's an everyday thing for some of you, but I'm excited and nervous because I feel this will be my magic bullet to really help me with accurate calorie counting. No more guessing and eyeballing portions! Or trying to fill little measuring cups hoping it's not too full or under filled! Right now it's just fun to weigh stuff. I noticed it weighs even partial ounces, like 4 1/8oz ounces, hopefully I don't become too obsessed!

I really like my food scale and I also weighed lots of stuff when I first got it. I don't use it daily, but almost daily for sure. I used it today to weigh out ground turkey for turkey burgers. I was suprised when I first got my scale; for instance, 4 ounces of chicken is more than I thought it was. Other things weigh out heavier than you might think. So it was an educational thing for me. It's just a lot easier to know how much I'm eating when I use my scale and my measuring cup; if I had the ability to eyeball this stuff, I'd probably not have gotten as fat as I got. (But maybe I would have, because I didn't particularly CARE about portion sizes before I started losing weight).

Either way, congrats!

I might need to invest in one of those soon..I have a feeling my "eyeballing" of portions isn't working too well

Been using mine for about 4 years now. I've been regaining the weight I've lost so I've gone back to strict calorie counting. After all this time, it's still a surprise to me how small an actual by weight serving of cereal or frozen yogurt is. It's so easy for me to eat two or three or more servings and not even realize it.

For me, the scale is a necessity. I simply *cannot* eyeball correct portion size.

I hope it is as helpful to you as it has been for me!

I got a digital food scale about 6weeks ago..LOVE IT! I eat peanut butter alot and couldn't believe how small a portion of it is. But,on the other hand..i was happy to see the amount of noodles i now get.

I weigh EVERYTHING! Guess im a little obsessed, but like others have said...I can't eyeball portions without eating more than one serving.

I got mine at walmart.

I weigh out everything and it's been a lifesaver! I weigh in grams, since that what most packages label for (like 100g of lean ground beef = 210 calories), so it's much easier that way, although my scales does ounces as well. Enjoy your new scale, portion sizes will never be easier. And, yes, I am a bit obsessive with mine, lol, but I enjoy it!

I love, love, love mine. It keeps me on track. Especially when i feel like my measurements might be off, the scale either confirms them, or tells me how much i should be eating.

Much easier than trying to measure by eyeball or volume.

Oooh. I want one.
Can I ask a stupid n00b question, though? Where do you guys find a course that tells you how many calories are in foods by weight?

A lot of the commercial diet websites get their data from the USDA website, so that's a good resource as well:

For me, measuring using cups and spoons is too abstract. Because you can really squeeze a lot into a measuring cup. Or remembering which items are packed and which items are meaured loosely. If that makes any sense.

Weighing is much more cut and dried, an ounce is an ounce no way to cheat a little. I was suprised to seee how much an ounce of cheese is and how few some items, like nuts, are.

I have a digi scale too and love it to death. I dn't think you can be an accurat calorie counter without it, I mean, seems like your shooting in the dark when it comes to serving sizes. I weighed peices of bread to compare a "slice" to the actual amount of gram in a serving and they were over through the whole loaf. OCD...ya, I gots it.
