Hi everyone I'm new to the forum, but not new to dieting!! lol Been on and off one for the past 10 years, and evrytime i end up off one i gain more than I lost - but I'm determined to make this a life change I'm going to stick to.
The only problem I have atm is deciding how to go about losing weight. What does everyone else do?
As I cant decide on an approach just yet I've decided to try the kelloggs challenge for two weeks to start off with. I've never done it before, so not sure what to expect at the end.
I am a calorie counter. I find this works best for me. This is a more flexible, less rigid plan and something you can use to maintain your loss, I think I have tried every diet out there and found calorie counting works best for me.
Welcome! I calorie count too and keep a detailed food journal. It is working for me by pointing out what, when, where and how I am eating. Several years ago I had good results with Weight Watchers but over the years I gained the weight back. It is good that you are focused on lifestyle changes, I think that is the key thing for me right now. I am not dieting, I am eating wise and healthy and moving around more. Good luck to you!
I know this may seem like a stupid question - but with calorie countin is that it? #just count the calories?? Or do you have to wtch other things like fat and sugar etc?
Also - I went on a site where youtyped in your weight - your height etc and level of activity - and it said that in order for me to lose a steady 2lbs a week i should aim to eat 2600 calories!!! surely that cant be right?
hello, correct me if I'm wrong but you are 5'10, so you get more calories then I would, say 5'6. How active did you say you were? Me? I work in the emergency department as a registered nurse and I lost 78 pounds without doing extra exercise. Just don't ask me about skin hanging, hehehe. I stared Weight watchers, one of the physicians I work with showed me how to count points and so on. I journal everything I eat and stay in my points range. When I stopped counting points, (not to mention eating healthy and in correct portions) I gained 18 pounds. Thank goodness somehow I found my senses and got back on the wagon. I've lost 10 of the 18 that came back. So what have I learned,,,? This is a lifelong journey, find something that is lifelong not just until you lose weight. Weight watchers works for me, the more I learn about food, portion control, and find things that I like to eat (like a small bagel and low fat cream cheese for breakfast) the longer I seem to keep with it and it is no longer a diet, it's a way of life. Hugs for your soul.

Hi
I too work in a hospital but my job is more desk based - some days I can run around but more often than not its quite sedantry (is that even a real word?) so on the calculator thing i put in minmal exercise/desk job. I figured put in the lesser active one then anything over and above that would be exctra calorie burning.
I used to do weightwatchers - and I really enjoyed doing it too - but I like going tot he meetings as i tend to stick to it better but at the minute i am literally poor as a church mouse! lol I am looking into this calorie counting thing a bit more.
Hi. I have found that exercising every day (even just for half an hour) has really helped. I haven't tried counting calories. I have tried to train myself to eat more healthily and make sure I take a salad in every day for lunch because I couldn't resist buying an unhealthy lunch at work. I have also given up second helpings which seems to have helped. I've actually surprised myself with how much I have managed to lose over a year or two. Exercising more seems to encourage me to eat more healthily so it's a virtuous circle. I don't think groups would work well for me as I am too self-conscious but several people I know at work have liked weight watchers.
Best of luck with whatever you decide to do - and well done for making a start and coming on here.
