Good morning and here's the coffee or tea. It's quite nice out on the deck but there are no chairs or cushions. I'm replacing them and haven't been shopping yet. We can squish together on the bench.
We survived the plumber yesterday although he did have to turn off the water several times. Sort of cramps your style when you are baking to not have water. There were a few batter bowls that had to soak overnight but the kitchen is spic and span this morning. I have a trunkload of baking to take to the Church sale in an hour or so.
No construction happening for two days which will be wonderful. My house is a mess with the diningroom stuff in the parlour but it will be great to just be alone except for the dogs. The workmen have all been real sweeties but the constant coming and going and truck traffic has been wearing on us all. This weekend we will recharge because next week is drywall!
It's pouring here, so we'll have to come up and sit on your cushionless deck chairs, Ruth. We had thunderstorms all night long, and I had to wait until a big one was over before I could get online this morning. It did cool off a little, but the humidity is awful.
Jake wants to go out for his usual breakfast routine, and then we'll get groceries afterwards. I need a few things at Trader Joe's, but I think I'll wait until tomorrow for that trip. Monica and the girls may come out this afternoon, depending on how the roads are. We have flash floods warnings and gusty storms are predicted for all day.
Good morning I've got an extra pot of coffee here, mind if I join you on the cushionless porch?
Ruth - I admit it, I'm still thinking about the chocolate zucchini bread Luckily it's too hot to bake without AC and I'm lazy! Hope you and the doggage spent plenty of time relaxing and enjoying the quiet this weekend.
Cottage - How was sleep last night? Sounds like we have the same weather today. Be careful out there.
Twynn - Have a great camping trip!
The weather is actually making our day more relaxing. We would have rushed to get on the road to spend the afternoon at our vacation spot, but the weather is pretty much the same there. We decided instead to have a leisurely morning getting last minute chores done, have a good lunch at home, then hit the road. It will make the day more pleasant. There's just no point taking the scenic route over the mountains when they will be completely clouded over. It's actually a pretty harrowing drive with heavy rain and dense cloud cover so I'm planning the less scenic, shorter route there. We'll go for the Kangamagus back instead. While looking for grocery stores we could use I discovered that Bethel, ME, just 30 miles more or less away from our motel appears to be a little hippy enclave in the mountains. There are vegan restaurants and a natural foods grocery. It's always nice to know we have an option if we want to grab a no fuss meal at some point. Last time we were in this general area we couldn't find anything - not even a grocery store. Apparently it pays to be closer to Maine It's also a lovely scenic drive there and back so might make a nice trip on a rainy afternoon (this year I just assume that will happen!).
How are things in your world this weekend? I hope there's some fun and some relaxation in the mix!
Ruth, enjoy that peace and quiet! I know the pups will too!
Cottage, with you on the storms. It finally stopped here yesterday evening. Lightening blew out a lot of electrical stuff at school day before yesterday and we had no copy machines to run off Friday tests. Ended up having to use my classroom printer to run them...ouch, lots of expensive ink!
The first full week of school went well. Open house will be on Tuesday evening...it will be a LONG day. Love my new class.
Had the yearly "Hot August Night" event downtown last night and it was packed. We went very early and got a great spot to park and an early meal, then did the Artist stroll and met up with friends all over. Later we went back to the same place that we had eaten for one more drink. I went into the bathroom and washed my hands and my big chunkly fleur de lis thumb ring went right down the sink. I tried fishing it out with the ear piece of my sunglasses and broke them. Finally was able to get a pair of needlenose pliers and got it out after about 30 minutes of digging. But all in all a fun night.
Today will be a massive amount of house cleaning/laundry etc that got ignored during the week and tomorrow will be working on powerpoints for lessons...sigh.

Ruth - better water than electricity, right? I am in awe you can bake so much, and not gain 20 lbs!!
Cottage - I'll have to check the weather...normally we're a 1/2 day ahead of you, we must get to miss the flash floods (although it's been a week of heavy rain!). Stay dry!!
Cyndi - enjoy your trip! The area sounds delightful!!
Cat - Glad you already like your class. Hoping you say the same thing in 6 months!!
Me - Welp, officially on vacation! This is our first real one in at least 3 years, the last ones have all involved obligatory trips to relatives, which we all know is not very relaxing! I haven't quite relaxed yet, still have quite a bit of packing to do. We should leave late morning (and if we don't , who cares?!!), so I'm taking my time while everyone else is still dozing.
I probably won't check in much (hmmm....probably no wi-fi in the forest!), but I'll definately be back after vacation. I'm sure I'll need to be doing phase I for a bit!!
Have a great week!!
RDW- FYI, the girls at work had some nasty bug. Started out as a sore throat, progressed to HORRID GI signs. Thankfully, I didn't get it! Hopefully, you'll feel better soon!!
I don't have much planned for today. I have to take the cat in for her shots this morning and then come back an hour later with the dog to get him his heartworm test and kennel cough shot. I didn't feel like trying to have both in the car at the same time. Diesel would probably stress out more than she normally does. I got my repaired pool sweep back last night ($227 - ouch!) and it did a great job in one night. I finished the last of school shopping yesterday with a few shirts for Brian and picked up book covers and notebook paper while it's the tax free weekend but the teachers won't give their supply list until next week so hopefully there will still be some sales left.
Ruth, Cyndi - Enjoy a relaxing weekend!
cottage - Sounds like a wet one. I used to love to curl up with a book and listen to the rain when I was a kid.
Cat - I'm glad you love your new class. So far I like Brian's teachers. He has seven classes plus advisory and we met most of his teachers. One is someone I have known from scouting. We just aren't crazy about the bus schedule. His bus makes 11 stops. He'll have to be at the stop by 6:55 to get to school by 8:10. Since I still have to drive him to the bus stop I'm thinking it might make more sense to drive him to a different bus stop or even to school but he'd be stuck there quite early then and he doesn't like that. It's frustrating deciding on the best solution.
Good morning, everyone! Sounds like the weather is varied for all of our chicks right now. It's nice and cool here, kind of starting to look like fall already.
Ruth: I can't imagine all that you're going through with the addition, but I'm very glad you have the weekend to rest. I'm sure the additional space will be well worth it, though. Enjoy the peace and quiet!!
Cottage: Yikes! Sounds like you've had a lot of rain! We had some lightning storms last night, but no rain. Enjoy your Saturday-morning ritual!!
Cyndi: Sounds like you and Julie have the right idea for creating a peaceful start to vacation. I hope it's wonderful and that the two of you have a great time!!!
Cat: I'm glad you're enjoying school thus far! Sounds like a really positive way to start off the year! Your evening last night sounds like it was wonderful...something DH and I would probably really enjoy.
Twynn: Enjoy your vacation!! Getting an easy start is really the way to go; it makes the entire trip more relaxed.
Barb: I can't believe you don't have supply lists yet!! But, it is Jr. High/Middle School, right? I think I remember it going like that. Glad you found some great deals on clothes. I think I'll try to fit in a quick trip to Kohl's when we get to Austin tomorrow.
Me: I really need to get up and get moving this morning. DH was on his backside the past two days, so I've been fretting and caring for him. He was in lots of pain and it really had me worried for a bit. He didn't go to the doc, but he did talk to her and she told us to continue on the course we were on and for him to come in on Mon. if he didn't improve.
I leave tomorrow with 3 coworkers for training in Austin and I really need to get laundry done and the house looking decent at the very least. Caring for someone who has a voracious appetite but can barely get out of bed really takes up a lot of time, so I'm a bit behind on everything.
Well, I guess I'll actually get up now and get the laundry going. Hope everyone has a great weekend!!
Ruth- Sounds like you have the plan to reenergize this weekend. Enjoy the quiet.
Cottage- Atleast the storms didn't knock your electricity off.
Cyndi- Enjoy your trip.
Cat- Sounds like you had a good time even with the ring incident.
Twynn- Have fun on your vacation.
Barb- It is hard to make decisions- but even though he is on the bus for so long atleast you wouldn't have to worry about him sitting at a bus stop.
Kim- Hope that your DH gets to feeling better soon.
As for me- still battling whatever I have- sore throat is going but now I have cough, sneezing and sinus problems yikes. The good news is I weight in today and my ticker is no longer lying. I am so happy as I lost 2 lbs this week and I am on Phase 2. The last couple of times when I moved into phase 2 my weight loss stopped, so I am encouraged that this time I can truly get back on track and progress. NSV- yesterday we had a meeting and lunch was provided nothing on plan at all- so I just went to the cafeteria and made me a salad. Wasn't tempted by any of the food at all, so again I think I am back on track.
Today is cleaning and errands- have a great day everyone.
Well, Well, it's the weekend. And people say we weekend around. But we're too busy singing, to put anybody down....
Guess what I'm going to sing all day?
We've had a busy, fun day already. We got up and went to garage sales. Found Auston a pair of barely worn Nikes for $2. Then we went to a volleyball tournament where my 14 year old neice was playing. They got spanked, and my neice wasn't happy. Hopefully their next game will be better.
Now it's naptime. Hope Auston sleeps, because he is in a baaaad mood!
Hope the weekend is panning out for you all. Pearlrose, I hope you are feeling better soon. That is not the recommended way to lose weight. Kim, hope your DH is feeling better, too.
We are trying to get back into the routine here. Kirk actually thought he was going to sleep in but coffee was on so he was roused at 6am to initiate the process of getting the dogs for their walk and us to the pool before the masses descended upon our healing waters...farmers market...couple of yard sales...nice lunch and hes down for a nap. I'm taking the opportunity to say hi and catch up with everyone.
Chelby, good yard sale score...again. I didn't see much.
It may be my nap time, too. I have a SB friendly cherry pie in the oven, though so it will have to wait.
I am sitting here just trying to catch up on everything. I feel a little better this morning but I am definitely going to the store for more cold/allergy medicine. This crazy California weather has my allergies going insane!
I need to plan my menu for next week. Gotta go through the kitchen to see what we already have on hand. At least I know there's still plenty of chicken thanks to Costco.
Good morning. I have sniffles and a bit of a sore throat. I wonder what that's about. I just don't get sick! Zinc lozenges and Vitamin C plus herb tea is on the menu today.
Yesterday's sale went well and I used the afternoon to relax - way too much actually as I did not get my Taco Bake made for dinner. This morning I have 8:30 Church and then need to go through with the vacuum. My sister is coming to see the progress on the addition and there is a bit of "stuff" tracked into the rugs although the guys are really careful. I need to dry some peaches and green beans too and finish making Taco Bake. However, the dogs and I will work in some afternoon porch time. That's my new resolve, no matter how busy I am.
What a beautiful Sunday morning! It's about 60 degrees right now, the high is only 83. What a crazy summer we are having in Alabama!
Auston spent the night with his cousin, Shepard, last night. I hope they got along. The past several times they've been together, they've fought and argued till no one liked them! They are 6 months apart in age, but with very different personalities. I would love for them to be best buds, but they at least have to get along. We are family in close proximity!
Jeff and I will head to the flea market in a bit. We need some fresh fruit and veggies. Yum! Hope to find a prize!
I just love the weekends when I can come downstairs to coffee already made.
It's overcast and more rain is expected throughout the day. Just as long as it moves out of here for tomorrow! The girls and I are going to the shore for a couple of days, and clear weather is a MUST! I plan to catch up on laundry, do some baking, and get my bag packed, but that's not too big of a deal. We'll probably have all the kids here for supper and maybe a swim if it's not raining, so I'd better see what I have in the freezer.
I hope your sniffles are just a temporary blimp in your day, Ruth. Best to nip it in the bud now!
Chelby, I'm not used to seeing you up so early on a Sunday! I hope you find lots of goodies at the market!
Good morning, got woke up about an hour ago with an issue at work, so while I am online waiting to see if gets resolved decided to pop in here
Feeling much better today just sinus- I think it might all be allergies for some reason but who knows, I know my allergy pills are helping to control it atleast.
Ruth- Hope you aren't starting to get what I had.
Chelby- I am sure as they get older they will learn to get along atleast for a bit.
Yesterday got most of the house cleaned and all the errands ran. Today will be finishing up cleaning the upstairs just vacumming and dusting and I might tackle DD2 toys need to reorganize.
I have to skip church this morning as I have to have a 11 a.m. telephone conference with work and DS and DD1 both are working today so they can't go either.
