Default Anyone watch the Tyra Banks show?

Hey ladies,

I used to watch this show quite a bit at the beginning of summer but stopped because of work. I recently tuned in again and remembered something that used to upset me SO much when I would watch.

Tyra promotes self-confidence and loving your body and yourself right?
So why is it that the first commercial on when they take a break is for Lipozene?("Do you have EXCESS BODY FAT?", "Body fat is unattractive", etc)

Does this bother anyone else?

I hate every commerial I see To do with this type of stuff ~No matter what channel it is on.....I am sure those behind Lipozene Pay good money for that spot to reach those watching her show.

Its sad what those companys do & say to get people to use there products.

Just remember that Tyra would advertise it on her show if she was for it...But she obviously isn't so they pay good money to advertise during her breaks on the show.
(And if she is for it ~SHAME ON HER!)

I like Tyra for the most part, but she gets very preachy sometimes and it bugs me. I remember one time a young prostitute was on her show, talking about how she is a single mother and by working at the Bunny Ranch she can afford to put herself through school, support her daughter, AND spend time with her. My mom raised me alone on little money and I can relate--she supported us and put herself through school but she was always too tired to play with me and I spent a lot of time alone or at sketchy daycares.

This was a very intelligent and self-possessed young woman who had made some hard choices in the face of incredible adversity. But all Tyra really had to say was "Isn't this bad, though? how can you do this?" She was attacking her for her choices without even addressing the unsupportive social system that had brought her to such choices. It really rubbed me the wrong way--judgey and shlocky, with no real in-depth analysis of the situation.

This was on a TV at the gym though, so my anger went a long way towards improving my elliptical performance!

I just posted and it didn't show up!
Yeah I heard she wanted to be the next Oprah too. But lately i find her shows are more like Maury than Oprah...
I still like her though, most of her shows are entertaining...

I have to admit I've never watched her, but I watch a lot of the WE channel (I love wedding television, so sue me) and Oxygen. Both those channels have a LOT of those kids of advertising. I don't think so much that they're sponsoring the shows, but its just the "target demographic" to advertise for. Its kind of shady - but if you watch the same channel (say TBS) during the day, the commercials are VERY different than what you see at night.

I saw Tyra on an awards show, I think it was the teen choice awards quite a few years ago. She gave a speech I liked, about never letting anyone tell you what you're worth, that she's been told over the years she wasn't thin enough, not white enough, not black enough, etc. etc. She enjoyed her "Ha, in your face!" moment, and I was happy to see her do it
