Okay, at my weight I know 14lbs is not probably going to be enough to "measure" shrinkage yet, but I was wondering...when did you guys start to really notice you were getting smaller?I'm getting a bad case of the wanna see it nows, and I know, logically, that at my weight and stature its probably going to take about a total of 30 pounds before I can really see a difference. So I just thought I'd throw this question out there to all the ladies and gentelmen...when did you notice your slimmer self emerging and what was it you noticed first?
Honestly, it took a good 50 lbs to notice anything on me. I remember how frustrating it was. My friend would lose 5 lbs and everyone would notice, I used to get upset. I guess it depends how you hold your weight, I'm apple shaped. Most of my weight is from the waist up. My friend is pear shaped, she gains her weight from the hips down.
I'd say to REALLY get people to notice...??... About 40ish pounds. But when they did (it happened just this past weekend, hadn't seen any of my friends in a good 5 to 6 months)...... they REALLY noticed!! They wouldn't shut up about it. hehe It was definitely gratifying to say the least..... I feel like superwoman now..... like I can do anything!

For me, I think its probably more than 40lbs. My lowest weight in recent memory (the last 6yrs) was 235lbs 2+ yrs ago; my highest ever was 275lbs earlier this year; I was able to wear the same clothes at both weights (yeah they were a little tighter or looser but they weren't bursting apart or falling off). I can't wait till it's so obvious and I can't wear the same clothes anymore. For different people it's different, I have a friend who lost 45lbs and went from a size 16 to a size 8, but I recognize of course that's not me. My time will come.
BTW I'm also apple-shaped so that could have something to do with it as someone mentioned above. The friend WAS pear-shaped.

I noticed last month when I started my calorie watching and began exercising, I put on an old pair of pants and hopped on the scale, there were 55 lost pounds and the pants had six inches between me and the fabric if they are worn up correctly around my waist. For now to measure and not buy any new clothes I wear those pants lower on my body and plan to until they fall off. XD What's even better is these pants are capri cut, but now they look like long pants !!!!
If I recall correctly, I think it took about 50 lbs for me or anyone to notice a difference. And even then, I think my first comments were "that I looked good". They weren't exactly sure what was different, that I had lost weight, but they knew something had changed. I may have noticed it a bit earlier, I can't exactly recall. It was probably in one of my skirts that was a bit more fitted then the others. I certainly wasn't wearing any skin tight clothing at the time,(now I am!) and I was okay wearing that size - for a while anyway.
Weight loss is not an instant gratification type thing. I knew this full well going into my journey. You've got to know that it IS coming though. Although there WERE immediate benefits. From day one, day one - I stopped getting the heartburn that I suffered with for years. And I took comfort and pride each and every day that I stayed on plan. Staying on plan in and of itself WAS a reward. The other immediate changes - I felt better. I no longer was in a carb/sugar stupor. So that was a nice and immediate change. I also was so excited about the whole thing. I knew every day that I stuck with my plan, I was one day closer to ending my misery. And of course, I DID have the scale. I KNEW the weight was coming off, even if I couldn't see it.
Hang tight. Rewards and changes of unbelievable magnitudes are headed your way. Unbelievable, indescribable, out of this world, over the top, heady, delightful, life altering - changes - they're coming!!!
i agree with robin, weight loss is definitely not an instant gratification thing. after i started losing weight i was constantly looking in the mirror to see if there were changes but i didn't see much really. in the past that made me eventually quit but that is no longer the case. so i'm just trying to stick to making this a lifestyle change that i can maintain. but i do visualize myself as skinnier but i feel when i look in the mirror i get frustrated because i don't see change. the only change i've been seeing after 15 pounds was that my neck looked longer and my face has more shape...
I've lost just over 40 pounds and only those few people who know I've been trying to lose weight have mentioned how good I'm doing. No one else has said a thing which is a little frustrating....although I was nearly not allowed through airport security the other day because apparently I look nothing like my driver's licence photo! I am also apple shape so that could be part of it. Lugging my 40 pound suitcase across the country certainly put my weight loss into perspective....hang in there, you will notice your loss real soon.
I've lost a little over 15 lbs and my pants are looser. I've also noticed that my jawline is a little more defined (fewer double chins), and my chest isn't as big across (plus, I'm in a smaller bra size). My DH has noticed my boobs getting a little smaller. I know I've got a ways to go before things are REALLY noticeable. Hang in there.
I am afraid that I have to agree with Robin that "weight loss is not an instant gratification type thing."
My doctor had promised me that losing just 10 or 20 pounds would make my knees feel better. After losing 10 pounds, I could not tell any difference. At 20 pounds loss, I realized that I was only taking Alleve occasionally rather than daily.
At 30 pounds my clothes were big on me but I still could not see it in the mirror. When comparing old and new pictures, I could see it. There was a big difference at 50 pounds. I could see it and others started commenting.
I'm down 13 lbs, and I've noticed subtle changes. The cottage cheese thighs are slowly disappearing (I even wore shorts the other day!). I've worked my way to a 9 minute mile - which I never thought possible 2 months ago. DH noticed that some of the "jiggle" is gone - which was a big morale booster, but no one else has noticed anything. My boss did comment that my face is looking slimmer, but he knows I've been passing on the office pizza and opting for salads at lunch.
I think when I lost about 20 pounds I could feel the difference in the way my clothes fit, 40-50 pounds was when people that didn't know started to notice.
Just know if you are seeing a difference on the scale and in measurements then it's working! Even better is how you are feeling....can you park your car not close to the mall entrance and not dread the walk? Etc... Like others have said, this is not an instant thing.
