Unhappy I could kick myself!

So, after 3 months of just watching my weight I was able to lose 70 lbs. Then two days ago I decided I needed to start exercising. I woke up early and thought I'd take a walk. At first, I had planned on maybe walking just a mile. When I got to one mile, I was like "I feel great, and im gonna keep walking!" Finally when it was over I had walked 3 miles. To top it off, I got home, and then did floor exercises for about 30 minutes. This was all great..until about 6:00 pm when I realized what I had done. My muscles were "screaming" at me and it was apparant I had definatly overdone it.So for two days I have iced my shins, taken advil, and rubbed icyhot all over my poor legs.
I think tomorrows walk will be much shorter....

Thumbs up

You should applaud yourself on taking that step to go walk and then do the workout at home. I know you're in pain but it is only temporary, I promise . Keep at it for few weeks and you'll see the aches and pains will start to lessen. Keep up the good work

Another thing you can try is do your DVD and walk on alternate days.

Awesome job on losing 70lbs!!

Hi Kimberly. It's pretty typical to feel REALLY sore the first couple times you work out. You are waking up your muscles! I bet if you tried the same workout 3 more times you won't be NEARLY as sore as this time. Don't give up, it's great to challenge yourself (as long as you aren't truly injuring yourself).

Oh man, do I know how that feels... and I'm not new to exercise! I think half of the time when I re-start a weight loss plan, I overdo it. And almost every time I try a new exercise!

I've lost count of the number of times I've planned to run a certain distance, with a certain number of walking breaks, and gone wayyy overboard, only to have my shins and feet hurt for weeks. And you should have seen my first spinning class... I was completely DEAD by 20 minutes in (to an hour long class) because I had worked so hard. I could barely walk after my first kickboxing class.. and the only reason my upper body was intact is because I just literally couldn't do half the exercises (push ups on our knuckles on a hard wood floor?? I was ready to tell him where I wanted to put that punching bag! ).

I guess my point is, start slow. And when you branch out into other exercises, start those slow, too. Or if (heaven forbid) you find yourself having to re-start... well... re-start slow.

And a big congrats on the weight loss so far, that's great!
