Default Sweet Potatoes as Substitute?

Good afternoon, everyone!

Does anyone know if it works to substitute sweet potatoes for white/red potatoes in recipes? Can they switch evenly or do I need to make cooking time or ingredient adjustments?

I was thinking of trying this recipe, specifically, but I have sweet potatoes right now:

Cheesy Pork Chops and Potatoes

I tend to make a lot of substitutions when I cook, based on what I have on hand and what I like or dislike in the original recipe, but I wanted to canvas y'all's input to avoid disaster!

Thanks!!

yes and no. if you love them as i do then certainly. However, my kids won't stand for it. You still have to like sweet potatoes. FYI: I make a mean potato salad with 2 parts red skin potatoes and 1 part sweet potatoes, low fat mayo, 1 part red vinegar 2 parts white, red onion minced, season to taste. YUMMMYYY but still for a special treat lol.

Sounds delicious with sweet potatos! The only time I wouldn't substitute sweet potatos for regular would be if the potato were part of the physical integrity of the recipe (you can make sweet potato rolls but don't use a regular potato recipe) or if I thought the sweet aspect wouldn't work (for instance I don't know that the level of garlic I put in my white potatos would work with sweet potatos).
