Default Hooping!

I was wondering if anyone hula hoops for fitness? I got into about two years ago but haven't really devoted time to it, just pick up my hula hoop when ever I'm bored and go outside to just spin my hoop. But have decided to start with four days a week for 15 minutes. I have searched to see if there have been any threads but most of them are related to the Wii.

I've been wondering the same thing about hooping for fitness! Since I don't really move all that much or work up a sweat I didn't really take it too seriously. I'm going to try and be more consistent with it, while I don't think it really counts as a workout for me, it can't hurt right? And it's so much fun!

At first I didn't sweat either but I sure did get bruises! Once I started to learn new moves and started to really dance and move around, I started sweating. And if you count your calories eaten and burned (which I sometimes do) you can burn up to 100 calories in just 10 minutes.

I think I really should try it as well. On the wii they have a game like this, and after 6 minutes of fast pace of it, by golly i felt the burn! lol. I don't even think you need a hula hoop. just move your hips.

Ah... I thought you meant fire hooping (poi). I have a friend who is VERY into that, and I know it's good exercise.

I tried the Wii version and it was weird haha, I've fire hooped once and wasn't comfortable with it, I had just started hooping and her wicks were very close to the hoop itself, but it sure was fun! I would love to try it again sometime if I had a hoop with longer sticks that attach to the wick. As a warning if you do pick up a hoop, be prepared for bruises! a good lotion helps out, I didn't know I had any until my friend told me.

Me personally swimming and playing basketball has help me lose weight. But I can hula hooping being a great exercise.

I have always enjoyed playing basketball, because you're using muscles that you are not normally use to using. And you can also break a sweat pretty easy which results in more fat being burned. If you haven't tried swimming or playing basketball I would suggest that you atleast try on of them.
