Default new here

i am a semi-retired teacher, married mom of one grown daughter. I was complacently fooling myself until three weeks ago when I went to a weight loss meeting with a friend. I was a little uncertain if I wanted to start this weight-loss journey at my age (late fifties) but my weight shocked me into action.

By avoiding the scales for almost two years, I had fooled myself into thinking I was maintaining (Tighter clothes? yes, but I convinced myself they shrank in the dryer.)

The fact that I had gained over twenty pounds since last I checked totally shocked me into action. I am off to a slow start, but I need to stay in for the long haul. I am going to meetings once a week, but joined here also because I need all the help I can get. I look forward to reading what others have to say and sharing my progress.

HI, I'm new too. My name is Jen. I'm from central NJ. I have one grown daughter and two teens, daughter and son. Also was blessed with a beautiful granddaughter this spring.

I was thin all of my life and a big fitness freak. My husband passed in '01 and after losing a ton of weight due to grief I very quickly swung the other way and started down a long, painful and scary road of emotional eating bordering food addiction. Went from a sickly 100 lbs after the loss to 195lbs within 3 years.

I'm currently on the road to recovery. I am a Christian who credits the Lord entirely for my continued success in understanding and learning about my eating disorder.

I'm really looking forward to delving into these forums and meeting other wonderful people that are losers like me!

I looked at your photos, onederland--amazingly inspiring!

Jensaloser, your height and starting weight are much like mine. It's great to see the progress you've already made.

EveLHaelf, thanks for the welcoming words. I hope I have the persistence to hang in with everyone.
