Default atkins buddy from italy

Hi everyone,

I have been reading you for a while and decided to give Atkins another go a couple of weeks back.
i am Laura, from Italy (although very soon moving to Paris), i am 31 and I had a daughter almost 3 years ago.
after 3 and half weeks on Atkins I have finally been able to wear my pre-pregnancy jeans today...
during the past 3 weeks, I just stuck to induction plan - with a slip after the first 2 weeks where I realised I had had gravy with my fillet steak so i indulged in potatoes and dessert went back to plan following morning (also thanks to the mighty headache from the carb binge).
this morning I weighed myself - i hadn't in the beginning, but I "knew" my weight - to see if I had finally broke the 80 (kg) and the scale said 76.. I was stunned. it hadn't happened in 3 years!

I find Atkins great and I am almost never hungry. I don't like to snack, so I keep my meals on the abundant side, at least for breakfast and lunch.
It is a bit more difficult over here, as we lack many of the low carb options you have in the states, for instance for salad dressing...so my diet is a bit lowish on fats...
At the moment, I am pondering whether mayonnaise is truly induction friendly over here, as it says that it has sugar among the ingredients.. what do you think?

Thanks for reading and have a good day

cheers
Laura

Default forgot to mention..

..even though I had not weighed myself before the start, I was around the 85kg mark, so that means I lost almots 10kg in just above 3 wks

Hi Laura and welcome,

Its quiet here this time, most folks are on vacation or just enjoying the summer...but it will pick up soon.

Congratulations on the weight loss, thats TERIFFIC !!!!! I'm thrilled atkins is working for you.

I know the Mayo we use here Hellmanns (Best Foods) is induction friendly http://www.hellmanns.com/products/real_mayo.aspx I don't know which brand you use.

Hellmanns = 0 carbs

INGREDIENTS: SOYBEAN OIL, WATER, WHOLE EGGS AND EGG YOLKS, VINEGAR, SALT, SUGAR, LEMON JUICE, NATURAL FLAVORS, CALCIUM DISODIUM EDTA (USED TO PROTECT QUALITY).

Not a significant source of Dietary Fiber, Sugars, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron. (((this is prob why it has 0 carbs)))

Wow, moving to Paris, sounds nice. I've never been out of the USA but I imagine it to be beautiful.

Again, to 3FC's

Hi Laura,

I'm in Paris (have been here about 6 years) so let me know if you need any advice. I'd offer to tell you the best bakeries but maybe we better skip that if we're both doing low carb....

Doing low carb in Europe is not very easy because it's never been a popular diet, but I've found it's pretty easy to follow except at fast food places like at airports (I plan ahead), but you're right the low carb convenience foods don't exist. I've been eating whole foods for many years before moving to low carb, so I don't use those types of foods anyway. There are one or two stores in Paris that carry some American products (sugarfree jello etc) I can tell you where if you need them.

Mayo in France in the fresh aisle (near the butter) is low carb (just eggs and oil). You can also make your own salad dressings (blue cheese, ranch, etc) that can easily be done low carb.

The lack of hunger thing is the big difference for me vs any other diet I've done in my life (tons). It's my first go on low carb, and I am LOVING it. I totally feel I could eat this way forever. I feel so much better not being hungry.
