Default Points

I just went to my first meeting this week. I am a little confused about the point system If 1 cup of vegetables is 0 points - then would 2 cups of vegetables be 1 point or still 0? Thanks

From what I know, a zero-point veggie is zero points even for two cups. Carrots, if cooked are counted as 1 point per cup because of the sugar in them. Raw, they are 0 points. Keep in mind that starchy veggies like corn, peas, etc., are not zero points.

Default Carrots...

Sorry to burst your bubble, wildfire, but ever since I've been on the WW program (April 2001) I have always been told that 1 c. carrots are 1 pt - cooked or raw. It is because of the sugar.

I was told at my meeting that cooked carrots are zero points because the cooking process burns off the sugar.. my leader mentioned that was one of the recent changes.

btw hunEpot - if you eat 1 cup (say lettuce) it's zero points.. well 2 cups of lettuce is still zero points! you just get to count it as 2 veggies!!!

I hope your first week is going well. The first two weeks were **** for me!

Dana sounds like you are doing great. So far it hasn't been too bad. I feel like I may start floating at any time with all the water I have been drinking LOL! Thanks for the info - the program is getting easier now.

Well, our leader told us that one cup of raw carrots could be counted as zero points. Cooking the carrots crystalizes the sugar, so we were told one cup of cooked carrots had to be counted as one point.

On the other hand, if you are eating a 1lb bag of carrots each day, and not just having a cup of raw carrots as a snack, then you have to count the points.

Little Engine, having to count carrots was one of the changes from the 1-2-3 Success program to the Winning Points program.

I'll verify this at our meeting on Wednesday, just to be sure.

I remembering this subject coming up before and someone had said something pretty smart:
"I not going to stress about carrots - because they weren't what got me fat in the first place"

so true

Exactly, Slimdown! I don't eat carrots all day long, so when I do have raw ones as a snack, or cooked ones with a meal, I don't count them. Sure, I can see if you're eating large quantities then it might affect your weight loss. Geez...even WW can't make up their minds..count them, don't count them...so how are we supposed to keep up?
